I am not moving any goalposts, and you brought in an unnecessary comparison with Golovkin.

You presented a list of fighters as though it was a tableau to greatness. I merely asked how well regarded they were at the time Amir fought them.

I'm not picking a fight, as I said previously, I genuinely admire Khan for his cash generation, and the times I've met him, he has been charming.
You spoke about only beating 3 top 5 ranked fighters like it was no big deal.

But that is roughly the amount that most of the top 10 P4Pers have beaten.
Loynesy wrote:But he's not a British great.
That depends on were the line is drawn on who is great or not.

He's certainly in the British top 100 ATG list.

We are not that far apart in our analysis. Clearly Amir Khan is a top 100 all time British great, I would never suggest otherwise, despite him being deeply flawed as an elite level fighter.

I haven't done the analysis on the current Top 10p4p as to who beat whom, and where they were on the rankings - if it were summer, I'd get one of my interns to do it as a research project, but I'd be reasonably confident that they had mainly satisfied that criteria.

If Brook beats Spence, he's the A side no doubt, he gave a cracking account of himself against G man, Khan would have got taken out Prescott style.

I agree that Froch has the best resume of any British fighter in the last 10 years, by far.
Calzaghe's last 4 fights are all within the last 10 years and they beat Khan as well.

David Haye probably has a better record, Fury has the Wlad win and maybe one or two others might arguably have better records.

But the point is that Khan is right up there, even though the last 5 years have been a big letdown.

Can someone explain why Khan didn't deserve a fight with Mayweather but Maidana, Ortiz, Guerrero and Berto did? And while we're at it, if his 'hanging around for undeserved fights' includes Pacquiao, can someone again tell me why Khan didn't but Algieri did?

Not saying it's the best record going but you have to be fair to Khan.

Khan put on a similar level of performance against Alvarez.

Ultimately, both got stopped in the first half of their fights, so neither really did especially well.

They were both stupid fights that wasted about a year of their careers.

Financially it wasn't a waste of time in their careers. You can say the same the think Bellew but because he won I suppose would say it different. I really wasn't those guys gambled on themselves. It work for some and didn't for others.

G is a much better and dangerous fighter, hence why Canelo has spent years ducking him, Khan would not be able to take the shots that Brook did, this has been proven over and over, also he beats Spence it beats any win Khan has had for a long long time.

Bellew always had much more of a chance against Haye than the other two had in their fights though.

Financially these fights made sense, so there's not too much point in moaning about it.

I don't think that Golovkin is much better than Alvarez.

Golovkin is a vastly overrated fighter and Alvarez is starting to be a significantly underrated fighter.

The reaction to the Brook and Khan losses speak volumes about the attitudes some have towards Khan. Both took too many shots and were ultimately stopped in fights that were a step too far, yet Khan is abused whilst Brook gets a load of well done/how brave plaudits. It smacks of double standards.

Why doesn't he fight him then? He's bricking it because he knows he'll get his arse handed to him.

Why not try and land a fight against McGregor if he can though? Easiest money Khan would ever make, to go along with the easiest win he'll have had in years

Ok then :TU:

Brook is about to fight spence, a really good fight with a genuine talent, meanwhile, jester Khan has nothing in the pipeline for months and has gone from calling out may/pac to mcgregor

Brook would muller Khan, it would be the only out come, and that's the only reason this fight isn't happening. Not b/c Khan feels he's levels above or any of that , but cos he'd get mullered

Khan's wins over Collazo and Alexander were very impressive.

Really surprised he didn't capitalise on this at welterweight.

I love watching Khan fight. It's the unpredictability you see.

It's frustrating that he spent too long chasing Mayweather. He has wasted his time over the last 2 or 3 years. I think the last Khan fight that I really looked forward to was the Collazo fight which he boxed very well. Maybe a career best. Since then, nothing really.

From his point of view he might have made a load of money. From a spectator point of view I wanted him in with Thurman, Brook, Spence, Pac, Broner, Porter and even a rematch with Garcia. He hasn't done that yet but his speed may be on the wane at 31.

It's just frustrating.

Brook is about to do something. Well done to him.

He's been a pro longer than Khan and he's older than him and yet 'jester' Khan's record pisses all over Brook's.

If Brook is so much better than Khan then why is his record so weak?

McGregor should just string Khan along for a couple of years like Mayweather and Pacquiao done, if he wants to piss away his peak years that's his problem, in this day and age of multiple world titles, Amir could be a 3/4 weight world champ, instead he won a world title in 1 weight division with his last world title fight win about 6 years ago which is a shame coz he's a fun fighter with a set of stones but no intelligence to look at the bigger picture

Spot on.

This is my frustration with him too.

The welterweight division is smoking hot & has been for about 4 - 5 years.

The talent pool is immense & one would think that if Khan was serious about his career, he would have been in line to fight at least one of those aforementioned guys at some point.

Believe it or not, I like Khan: I've met him & he's a lovely bloke, but in respect of his career, he is deluded & he has idled away his prime.

One day he will look on this period with great regret.

Brook still beats Khan from one end of the ring to the other, Khan knows that, his team knows that.

Forget records, forget who's been pro longer or any of that, khan will not pen a deal to fight brook, despite his "record". When it comes to Khan "records are for dj's" comes to mind. Whatever it looks like on paper, Khan would still get sparked on fight night

Because the others didnt make out it was a superfight between two equal superstars and they deserved vast sums of money.maidana ,guerrero and berto even ortiz had done far more to be deserving.....algieri was just cannon fodder and he didnt sell it as the fight of the century.....khan had done nothing...apart from beat a alexander who had already been finished by porter...he had lost to peterson and garcia been floored by diaz struggled with collazo, plus his ego was annoying to floyd and manny and their teams....now khan has been blitzed in his last fight but somehow that earns a fight with pac? At least the others were active khan has been inactive.....a b level guy who adopts a mayweather pac schedule of one or two fights a year

The key to this part is the fighters you have mentioned wouldn't have been expecting anywhere near the financial reward Khan was expecting. They fully recognised they were the b side and would get a short percentage. Khan wanted a significant chunk.

Amir saw what Hatton took from mayweather and, understandably, wanted the same. The difference was that Hatton brought a lot more to the table reputation wide, fan wise and crucially , financially. Plus he slipped mayweather a bit of a Mickley with regards to UK ppv
