Bellew Admits He Was Terrified, Wrote a Will Before Haye Fight

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Tony Bellew admits that he actually wrote a will before his scheduled fight with David Haye.

In the weeks leading up to the fight, Haye had promised to end Bellew's career by sending him to the hospital with severe injuries. Haye warned Bellew that he was risking his life by going forward with the contest.

Bellew, a father to three kids, took the threats seriously.

“There’s people in situations and it’s very, very frightening. The situations some fighters have been in recently. I’ll be honest, it scares me,” he told Boxing News.

“People don’t know this but I wrote a will before that fight. It’s the only time I’ve ever done it in my whole career. I wrote a will two weeks before leaving everything to my missus in case anything happened to me because I knew he was capable of really, really hurting me.

“Don’t get me wrong, I knew I’m capable of hurting him too. That’s the extreme measure I went to. To hear this guy saying the things he was saying, I just found it absolutely disgusting.”

Tony Bellew is doing his upmost to remain in the media spotlight, with a view to securing one final mega heavyweight payday.

I have to be honest, I don’t believe him. It’s a fascinating story though, that will likely gain some newspaper/website column inches.

Tony Bellew has a future as a car salesman once he hangs up his gloves.

I wonder if Sly Stallone can offer him a seven figure sum to play himself again in Creed 2, then he won't have to keep up this nonsense?

He talks too much about the dark side - putting his life on the line, writing a will etc. I like the geezer but that can get boring

Sorry Tony, you're talking about Daffy here, not Povetkin, or AJ or something.

I'm not sure how anyone likes him. I preferred Haye, which remarkable because I think he's a prick.

That comment makes me wonder, how does a fight with Povetkin and AJ play out

AJ will win, because of his reach

I agree, if AJ's chin holds up

Nothing wrong with ensuring your family is taken care of...it's odd he hadn't thought of it before though :OhYes:

That being said, if Hate terrified him like that he needs to keep the other Heavies names off his lips. Wilder may be crude and unproven but his power is more than enough to actually legitimately hurt Bellew.

I think AJ is fast enough to avoid contact, if he isn't, he might lose indeed.

Cannot really believe much that Tony says.

He was crying with emotion after his EBU title saying he never thought in his wildest dreams he was good enough to win an EBU title.

This was a guy who had a pretty stellar amateur background and who ran a world champion (who had held an EBU title) extremely close at a weight in which he says he could never do properly. He was a British and Commonwealth champion at Light Heavy - why couldn't he make EBU cruiser level?

How many more times does he have to fight to actually believe he isn't a bad fighter. Nearly after every big (or even half big ) fight he says after "well actually, I thought I wasn't good enough".... but then pre fight he could beat Marciano and Ali rolled into one.
