The World Boxing Super Series will be a bracket-style elimination tournament featuring a total of $50 million in prize money. The winner will receive the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
The tournament will be organised by newly-founded Comosa AG, a Swiss-registered company with principal owners from the world of marketing (Highlight Event & Entertainment), broadcasting (Modern Times Group) and boxing (Team Sauerland).
The tournament, the first of its kind, will kick off in September 2017. It will be taking place on an annual basis. The inaugural season of the World Boxing Super Series will feature two weight classes, 16 fighters and a total of 14 main events. In each weight class, eight boxers will battle it out in a bracket-style elimination tournament, with four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and one final. This makes for seven top fights per weight class, and a total of 14 fights in season 1 to be staged in premier venues around the globe.
An expert panel will invite the top 15-ranked fighters of the four big federations WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. The eight Quarter Finals – four in each weight class – will take place in September and October 2017, with the four Semi Finals scheduled for January and February 2018. The two Finals will then go down in May 2018.
If it puts the best boxers facing each other then I'll watch with interest. That's all boxing needs, great match ups is great for the sport.
The super six effectively made Frochs career, yes he did well outside it, it gave ward his big break, it got European Kessler over to America, it gave unproven dirrell a shot against the best... lot of positives for me.

Super six was good but injuries ruined it a bit. Ward and Dirrell weren't established at the time so that had a lot to do with the series coming to fruition. Was still good though We need more of the same.
Very nice, hopefully the participants are announced soon! Sounds a good way to do it. Gather who's willing to do it and from that list pick the 8 best guys.

It took 3 years and ended up with half the field quitting. No truly memorable fights.

First part true, second part of true, 3rd part untrue imo.
My positives drawn weren't really the tournament itself per se, but the match ups that were put on. Not easy getting top guys to face each other in today's boxing
Problem with the Super Six is that a number weren't established as top world level guys at the start. Hence, once they won a fight and became more established, they thought to themselves 'why should I have to fight the next guy for this amount of money?" Then they quit

Agree with your last statement, which fight was memorable? Froch/Kessler was good and Abraham's ko of Taylor was sick, but as a whole it was a let down for me. Froch/Bute afterwards was more intense to me.

Froch vs Taylor? Yes Taylor had heavy stoppage defeats prior. But he did well that fight, putting Froch down no mean feat, winning the fight till froch put it on him late to win with seconds to go. It's not gatti ward but it had drama in a sense.

Was it after? I truly don't remember exactly except it seemed around the time from memory. In fact you are right as Taylor was replaced by Johnson, who I do remember Froch fighting

Before
To answer your point then I'd agree on all 3 fronts there was no "classic" fight that will be talked about in the future. Some decent fights, some ordinary, some poor
Froch was clearly keen to face names pre super six. Beat Pascal, went to America and beat Taylor, was clearly desperate for Calzaghe. Plus afterwards only had one gimme in Mack.
Super Six was great but should have been better. Promotionally it was a bit of a let down. Carl coming out at half two in the morning or whatever it was and that sort of thing. Plus the final seemed a bit of a damp squib.
In hindsight it is easy to say Abraham is sh*t etc, but he was favourite going in, and even after the Ward and Dirrwll fights was still widely fancied to beat Froch. Both Dirrell and Ward were relatively unkown going in, but turned out to be elite and Ward one of the best ever at the weight. The super six gave us a series of match ups that was unheard of pre tournament and unheard of ever since. Bring on the WBSS, if they get the correct fighters signed up it should be another tournament for the ages!
Comosa AG, the organiser of boxing´s first global knock-out tournament, is delighted to announce that the inaugural season of the World Boxing Super Series will feature the fiercely-competitive cruiserweight and super middleweight divisions. In each weight class, eight fighters will battle it out in a bracket-style elimination tournament.
In early July, Comosa will stage an official Presentation Gala in Monte Carlo to publicly announce all 16 participants and determine the draw. In each weight class, the four top seeds will select their quarter-final opponents from the four unseeded boxers in a live TV show.

That was dirrell. Wanted more $ that he had previously and contractually agreed to fight Ward so he pulled out the tournament with a head ache.
Cruiserweight is definitely a good choice. Lots of depth to that division and plenty of guys with the styles to make entertaining fights. Will current world champions be involved? If so, that line up could be something special.
Super-Middle is interesting. Haven't heard much mention of it so not entirely sure if Chunky, Groves and Smith are interested. It has gone quiet re: Callum Smith for a long time though so there might be something in that, who knows. The Sauerlands are involved so no doubt a couple of their guys will be in there.
