Boxing's Black Eye From Casual Fan's Perspective

Post by bnovelist »

I swear everytime I've been bringing up boxing to casual fans whether I'm at the donut shop, car repair shop waiting room, local park, ALL of them

are saying "That Mayweather Pacquaio...I Hate That Fight." That regular casuals can't stop talking bad about Mayaweather/Pacquiao and this is

proof that Mayweather has done more harm than good for the sport of boxing. That fight left so much of a bad taste in people's mouths they aren't

turning into the likes of GGG, Kovalev, or Thurman.

don't worry.....new generation wont know floyd, dont have the bad taste this generation has. GGG, lomachenko, spence, crawford, bertebiev, joshua, this is the new era, a new time has begun, a time of action and knock outs. they will make chickens aura disapear.

Manny Pac, the offensive fighter did nothing in that fight. I blame him for it being so lackluster. Floyd ended up having to be the aggressor in the later rounds while Manny just stood there.

He really was outwitted wasn't he. If only he knew how to cut off the ring.

Floyd was the only thing casual fans cared about in the states. It will never be more than a niche sport here again.

He knows how, Manny wanted no part of a fight with Floyd. He knew he couldn't win. People underestimate the confidence peds give you. Without them PAC looked scared against Mayweather. Scared and clueless.

I heard PAC was so nervous in the locker room that he needed to relieve himself (sexually) multiple times to try and relax. Thats how he hurt his shoulder. Ask Jip, he was there holding the bucket, this time it wasn't for spit though.

Lol, amazing so many thought the dynamic of that fight should be Floyd pressing the pace.

It's true that Floyd Mayweather greatly damaged the popularity of the sport of boxing.

It can come back thought, because of exciting fighters like Golovkin and Lomachenko.

True, add into the mix general Mayweather hatred. But really, what was Pac doing in there, was he trying to outbox him? If there was any slight indication of a weakness in Mayweathers game it was volume/pressure punching. And isn't that what Pac is/was known for. Pretty terrible performance by him and it has continued, someone pointed out his punch stats since Mayweather and the "op" and they haven't improved.

You can't fleece the fans forever. The stink from that fight has made the paying public give boxing a wide berth. I'm afraid the cat is out of the bag now. It will take someone very very special to get boxing back.

Doesn't look like it will a US fighter. Now if only Canelo could fight like GGG...and talk like Ali.

and they are right on both terms. floyd robbed over 4 million buying ppv fans, if he would have said "i am going to box as always defensiv", than a lot of people wouldnt have bought the fight, maybe 1 million less. but what did he said "i am the present, the future of sports entertainmant, mayweather vs pacquiao is going to be an exciting fight". he is a big time liar. its like you came to a restaurants, ask for a steak and the waiter says "i will bring you a great steak, medium rare" and you get exciting and than she comes with an avocado   not hating on avocados, but you get my point

It was written tounge in cheek, BUT, if that fight takes place (and I personally hope it doesn't) the casual fight fans will be falling over one another in a frenzied stampede to book it. Naturally they'll get the pop corn and beers in fight night and be hugely disappointed.

And as for not fleecing fans forever, well they've been doing it over and over for years.
