Chavez Jnr vs Canelo: anybody else quite looking forward to it?

Post by Cyclops »

Both are weight cheats and both are going to be roided to the gills. I think that's fine so long as they're both happy to fight each other like that. Jnr has never been great but the size he had on his opponents meant that he was able to ship punisment and wear them down. Canelo is obviously a better boxer but his last few fights have been pretty cynical mismatches, with Canelo looking ginormous next to Khan when actually in the ring. I suppose, on the face of it, this is another.

But Chavez seems to be taking this very seriously. He's training with Nacho and Heredia. He's not going to come in weight drained. He's going to come in massive, with back acne. Canelo just doesn't have the dimensions to be a SMW, which is what Chavez is, really. Canelo just hasn't been in the ring with anybody near as big.

I think it will be an entertaining fight. I don't really care who wins, but I will pull for Chavez to pull off the upset late.

Anybody else care?

Both fighters have signed up to VADA for this fight. Where as Conelo pulled out of VADA testing for the Liam smith fight which was at a weight he did not make for two years. Now it's there for a weight Chavez has not made for 4.5 years.

It's in BT sport over here actually. Won't stay up for it I'll watch if I hear it was a decent fight, I just despise both fighters and it is a farce of a fight.

164.5 lbs. Conelo was arguing about 1lb in negotiations FFS. Should Conelo win I think he will say he has an "injury" ;-) and doesn't fight again this year.

As for Chavez I hated how he was given the WBC middleweight belt, was great when Sergio schooled him. This is the first fight I actually want him to win.

Providing the weight isn't an issue I think Canelo might be in trouble here.

I think Canelo is going to beat him Chavez. Like Pacquaio did oscar. Predicting Chavez will be inactive and drained of energy due to weight

Can see a huge drama come weigh-in.

I can't see Chavez causing him any problems. Canelo mid-late stoppage.

I have a sneaky feeling in the back of my mind that Chavez will pull this off.

I agree, if Chavez has got himself motivated, no reason he can't make the weight. If, and it's a big if, he's comfy at the weight, Canelo could be in for a pasting.

Chavez looks very switched on

So going to be an interesting fight :TU:

I'd like to see him do it, knock the wind out of oscars sails but I just think canelo will get the win

It's the size and motivation that's making me think he might just do it. Probably won't but I have a feeling haha.

Should be a good action fight. I hope Chavez is motivated and makes it as tough as it can possibly be for Alvarez.

I am really quite excited. Chavez's last hurrah and he is naturally significantly bigger and taller.

And he seems to be taking it very seriously.

However - Chavez could be really weight drained if he doesn't do the weight properly - I saw a photo on the CS and he looked like a lollipop.

If he's not too drained I can see him giving Canelo a hard fight, possibly even outmuscling him.

Feel exactly the same.

I don't dislike either fighter. I'm too lazy to have negative thoughts about people who are good at a sport I enjoy watching.

But I just have this feeling that Chavez can pull off an upset.

Not sure why everyone thinks it's such a mismatch. If Chavez gets the weight right, and he looks in good shape, he might walk through what canelo has. He can generally take a hiding. This is the biggest fight, huge amount on the line in terms of pride. If he gets the weight right, he's going to give Canelo problems. He's got some really nice moves to get inside,i like how he switches southpaw and throws a big left hand. That's what basically did Andy Lee. He walked through everything Lee had and smiled when Lee landed his big hooks.

If the version of Chavez jnr that fought Andy Lee turned up, then i'd fancy his chances. The problem is- that version of Chavez hasnt turned up for awhile. He tried being a 'boxer' against Vera and looked rather mediocre doing it and he looked mediocre and also vulnerable against Fonfara.

I have to think that JCC is highly motivated for this one. In my opinion Canelo should win, but I can see it being significantly more difficult than I imagine his team anticipated.

Should be a fun fight and deliver drama and two way action for Mexico like Juan Manuel Lopez and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr did for Puerto Rico.

Posing in a sauna doesn't give grounds for confidence. Chavez has just about the worst footwork I've ever seen on a fighter at that level.

Wasting his time in a sauna, as soon as he has a drink of water the weight is back on him.

Yeah, but it might have been for a check weigh-in.
