AJ's opponents vs Wlads

Post by SAPFO »

Martin, White, Molina, Breazeale, White etc.. vs Pulev, Povetkin, Each, Jennings, Haye, Peter, Byrd, Botha etc..

Wlad took a lot of fighters 0

I get the AJ hype, but it's the equivalent of a Championship footy side playing in the Champions League. They may be an ageing side, be slower, and not as fit, but they've been around the block a few times, and have seen it all before.

Comparing their opponents really isn't realistic about their prospects in this up and coming fight. One was undefeated for 10 years and had a massive long spell as champion, the other is 4 years into his career. There's no way his cv will compare.

But it doesn't mean AJs gonna be on the end of a schooling. I'd say the % is that AJ wins this fight.

If I was putting money on it'd be by stoppage 5-8

Faulty logic. Tyson Fury boxed all garbage bar Chisora and still clowned Klitschko. Klit might go down vs AJ even quicker than Molina.

Yes, it certainly is faulty logic to assume that someone won't win a fight because their opponent has a better record. I think you may have dispensed some of that reasoning yourself over in the Boxing History section

Faulty logic. Just because Fury outboxed Wlad comfortably doesn't mean AJ will automatically stop Klit inside 3 rounds.
To completely write Klit off is simply foolish. Haye, Wach, Povetkin, Pulev and Jennings are not names to be sniffed at. Wlad beat them all.
Whyte, Martin, Breazeale and Molina do in no way compare...

He was a decent cruiser who had his success. More so when the likes of David Haye moved up to open the division a little.

But at heavyweight, no sorry. Gate keeper level is someone like Del Boy. Who steam rollers Cunningham. Cunningham is not a name to pull out to big up furys cv

I'm surprised you haven't rattled off some verbatim examples. As with all things, it's all relative. The above sentence about Fury contains all the context - and in only 11 words!

All these things aren't really faulty logic. There's more to a cv than just names. It's how you do it. There can be no argument that Wlads beaten better fighters (though nothing earth shattering), but if you saw something in the way fury fought to predict he'd beat Wlad, or AJ coming up, then the names don't really matter completely do they

Hence the use of the word "might". For a famous example, Lewis went 10 rounds without making a dent in Billups - then bombed out Ruddock. Come back to me after AJ tramples Klit.

seems you are covering both bases.
In one breath you are tentatively using AJ "might" beat Klit quickly.
In the next "AJ tramples Klit" in a definitive manner.

Fair enough. If you can list a heavyweight fight Cunningham had before he fought fury that suggests he's at any sort of level I'll go look it up and see if I'm missing something.

Or any heavyweight fight after to give you a chance.

The "if you remove their best win, their resume wouldn't be any better" argument has to be one of the dumbest. You could just recurse it until you'd have to conclude Floyd Mayweather's resume is no better than Sean Loeffler's.

Well Cunningham went on to win a close fight with Mansour who, while not even being able to breath, battered Joshua's second best opponent, Breazeale.
And Chisora is agreed here to have deserved to beat Whyte, who self trained and injured was Joshua's best opponent.

Fury's pre-Wlad resume was miles better than Joshua's, it isn't even close.

If you can see where I'm arguing that AJs cv is better than Furys pre Wlad I'd like to see it.

I expect AJ to trample Klit, but having watched boxing a couple of times before I am aware that anything can happen. I have previously expressed concerns about Joshua's chin.

Personally I haven't gone as far as trample, but I predict a AJ stoppage win. Why?

Judging by his last fight, Wlad is on the slide. Dreadful performance, though we may credit fury to a degree for making him look that way.additionally at 41 years old, you are not in your physical prime. Boxing history shows that. Yes heavyweight prime can be later in life, and in today's world of clean living you can extend a career, but he is not in his physical prime.

Physical dimensions. Not sure on reach but height wise very similar. Weight won't be too far off. AJ will not be bullied like David Haye was at times. He's a physical match for Wlad.

Styles. Wlad likes to control distance, and fight exclusively on the outside. He has no inside game other than clinch. He has a better jab and his lever look a little longer than AJs, but someone could prove that wrong I've not seen the reach stats.he could old man AJ with those advantages and experience. I favour that the quicker man, AJ, won't allow that to happen. Wlad won't establish the jab well enough and AJ will be able to get closer. Wlad has heart but physically in a fight he's unravelled before and will unravel again when AJ is able to land the hooks and upper cuts at closer range. Anytime after 5 rounds I see this happening. Wlad will get broken down imo

So what you're saying is that the young new champion has faced less of the best fighters available than his opponent the former undisputed champion and 20 year veteran?

Less of the best fighters available?
He hasn't faced 1 of the best fighters (Fury, Wlad, Povetkin, Ortiz, Wilder, Parker, Pulev) available yet.
