I'd love to see Naz or Lewis but both are over the hill and way too gone to contend. So I'd say Calazaghe, I reckon give him 12 months and he could give a good fight still.
Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?

Which fighter would you like to see one last time who could realistically still give it a good go?

None. Calzaghe would be a 46 year old man if he came back. Someone like Kovalev would absolutely murder him.

Froch for me. I'd like him to have a tune up and then get in with GGG. Won't happen though since he had his nose done.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
Not sure. Good question. Froch looks after himself and could probably still do a bit of damage. Calzaghe, Lewis, Naz etc are too far gone.
I was always a big Alex Arthur fan though I see him as a bit of a waste of talent. Should've done a lot more with his career. Would be fun to see him back but he looked as if he'd put a fair bit of muscle on last time I seen him.

Froch for me too, I mean I'm happy he retired, but he probably had one more big fight left in him, and he's not so old.

The buildup would be better than the event, it would be a pretty dreadful spectacle.Tuan_Jim wrote:Eubank/Benn III.

If Froch came back for only one fight I'd want it to be against Hopkins.
If he came through that looking good then go after Golovkin, DeGale etc.

Really? It would be a bloody awful fight.Horse wrote:If Froch came back for only one fight I'd want it to be against Hopkins.

I think Hopkins has finally gotten too old, I'd personally prefer not to see him in the ring again.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
Yes, but who's a more credible opponent that Froch could sensibly fight on his ring return, after over 3 years out of the ring?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Really? It would be a bloody awful fight.

There is also the Calzaghe link, with Hopkins arguably being Calzaghe's best win.
Froch might benefit from having a win over him as well, when their records get compared.
After so long out, even Roy Jones Jr would be a credible opponent.

It's 3 not 30! Jones isn't capable of beating anything but club fighters now. I'll bet Froch is still in the gym regularly.Horse wrote:Yes, but who's a more credible opponent that Froch could sensibly fight on his ring return, after over 3 years out of the ring?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Really? I doubt he will come back so it's all a bit moot.

Froch is one of the only domestic fighters who could come back and do anything at a decent level.
As for other retired British fighters:
I wouldn't mind Lennox Lewis coming back to fight Riddick Bowe.
Kevin Mitchell and Gavin Rees back in the domestic lightweight mix could be good.
Matthew Macklin vs Andy Lee.
Ovill McKenzie returning if his health problem somehow got better.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
Froch did a few rounds of sparring with Anthony Fowler in Sheffield last week.

Make of that what you will. Still in great shape so it's definitely possible but I do get the feeling he drops these sort of comments every so often as either attention seeking or a bit of a wind up.

Horse, you do realise that Hopkins got smashed out the ring in his last fight against a one-dimensional slugger? No-one could sensibly compare a Froch win against Calzaghe's from how many years back.jamesmcdonnell wrote:It's 3 not 30! Jones isn't capable of beating anything but club fighters now. As for Roy Jones you're out of your mind.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
I would quite like to see McDermott back in the mix. But I'm not exactly desperate. Can't think of anyone else really.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
Obviously Calzaghe's win would be much more credible, but a Froch win against Hopkins would still look good on his record and would be in his top 10 best results.Dixonian wrote:Horse, you do realise that Hopkins got smashed out the ring in his last fight against a one-dimensional slugger? My point was that after 3 years out, pretty much any comeback opponent is acceptable for Froch.Dixonian wrote:As for Roy Jones you're out of your mind.
I'd rather he fought Jones Jr, than a complete nobody.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
I'd rather he faced a nobody who was fresh and able to go a few rounds than the shell of a fighter who will be rendered unconscious on first impact.Horse wrote:Obviously Calzaghe's win would be much more credible, but a Froch win against Hopkins would still look good on his record and would be in his top 10 best results.Dixonian wrote:Horse, you do realise that Hopkins got smashed out the ring in his last fight against a one-dimensional slugger? And with regards Hopkins, you've suggested a win for Froch will help him in comparison with Calzaghe. Nonsense. Of course, Hopkins could still be an awkward customer but that's it. He's likely gone 'over the cliff' now.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
He's still a massive name and it would boost Froch's record.Dixonian wrote:And with regards Hopkins, you've suggested a win for Froch will help him in comparison with Calzaghe. Nonsense. Of course, Hopkins could still be an awkward customer but that's it. He's likely gone 'over the cliff' now.
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
I think Froch retired at the right time and, frankly, where does one go after knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley?
Re: Which British Fighter would you like to come out of retirement and have 1 more fight?
An ancient shadow of Hopkins isn't going to boost Froch's record. It's not as if his record needs boosted is it?Horse wrote:He's still a massive name and it would boost Froch's record.Dixonian wrote:And with regards Hopkins, you've suggested a win for Froch will help him in comparison with Calzaghe. And even if he did fight him it would likely be an awful watch. I can't remember seeing anyone look good against Hopkins.

Yes, Froch's record could do with a boosting.Stuarty30 wrote:An ancient shadow of Hopkins isn't going to boost Froch's record. It's not as if his record needs boosted is it?
I reckon that I'd enjoy it.Stuarty30 wrote:And even if he did fight him it would likely be an awful watch. I can't remember seeing anyone look good against Hopkins.
