Trouble at boxing event...

Post by Razor »

Several spectators were shot and stabbed when a kickboxing tournament erupted into a wild brawl on the Gold Coast overnight.

Five men were admitted to hospital following the melee at the Royal Pines Resort, Carrara, about 10.40pm (AEST) yesterday, police said.

One man was shot in the head and back. Another man was shot and stabbed while two other men suffered knife wounds to the abdomen.

A fifth man, thought to be a bystander, was shot in the foot.

All were taken to Gold Coast Hospital but their conditions were not considered life-threatening, a police spokesman said.

Police have yet to locate a firearm or identify all the suspects involved.

A major incident room has been set up at Surfers Paradise police station and witnesses have been urged to contact the Gold Coast CIB.

This happened in Australia tonight/yesterday.

Has anything like this ever happened in england? I know there was trouble at the Rahman-Maskaev match but any big scenes in british boxing? :box:

Its gone off loadsof times overthe years at shows in Britain- usually a combination of too much booze and poor levels of security.

The biggest I can remember was at the NEC during Benn v Gimenez, I think. The fight was between Rob McCraken (BCFC) and Steve Foster (MUFC) fans.

The worst I have personally seen was probably at the James Hare - David Barnes show in Barnsly. Once again there was a football overtones as I think it was Leeds fans clashing with Man Utd fans - Lancashire v Yorkshire.

Wasn't it after the tragic James Murray dinner show in Scotland that beer was banned from the hall boxing is taking place in Britain?

It was a fight between the Hells Angels and the Finks motorcycle clubs. I think all the people injured except 1 where members of either club, I cant imagine to many witnesses will come forward.

i went to the williams/skelton fight last month.made the mistake of taking my girlfriend!! place was full of gangs of lads who didnt know shit bout the sport and i doubt if they ever even seen a boxing glove, let laced one on,walking round pissed up giving it big time!!the security there was crap also,i paid over 80 quid to get close to the ring, yet halfway through the night a big group of asian lads from the back seats where jumping barriers and taking all the emprty seats!security just watched as me and a few other pissed off boxing fans told them to sling there hook.it didnt spoil the night but it took the edge off an other wise quality night.they should stop the drunken louts at the door, and certainly shouldnt sell alcohol in the arenas.i mean, who can honestly say they enjoy watching the boxing whilst pissed? you have no chance of watching a fight properly.let alone appreciating thre skill and talent of the fighters.

I would say there's a strong case for banning booze at fights, but I think a lot of people wouldn't turn up if there was no bar, simple as.

There's often an unsavoury element at boxing matches, often lads who follow a particular fighter who come along all pumped up and feeling really hard.

The levels of security generally are very poor, nowhere near enough considering the testosterone/alchohol and charlie flying about. There's loads of people I've talked to at the bar at boxing venues, who are well sniffed up.
