Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
A really good LH fight today. If Slava wins today, he gets closer to that title shot. I have a feeling Oscar might be taking him the WBC route to chase Adonis. I also feel like Slava has the physical attributes to move successfully to Cruiserweight eventually.
Barrera however will be very tough. I would say a 50/50 fight, but idk how that loss to Ward affected him.

I think Shabranskyy wins because I think he's better.

Shabranskyy should win. The only reason anyone thinks Barrera is anything special is because he has the "Cuban amateur" tag.
Decent fight, though.

Good matchup, 60-40.
Although I'm picking Shabranskyy to win, we shouldn't sell Barrera short. He definitely has a decent chance.

Looking forward to this one. Unfortunately I'll have to watch on mute since it's on HBO latino. Ronny Rios is beating the living hell out of this Tapia kid in the opener.
Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
I never been particularly impressed with Shabransky. Here is though his chance to prove me wrong. Beating Barrera will take some doing and if Ukrainian is victorious we'll have another top contender in the division.

Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
This fight is perfect example of how silly it is when people pretend guys like ward, Floyd, Whitaker, etc. Can't punch. Barrera looks great tonight, but sting counters and subtle movements rendered him unable to open up against Andre.
Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
Making their opponents continually miss plays a bigger role than power IMO...it's very disheartening to throw but hardly land.
I think Barrera was hurt more in the second here than he was any time against Ward, but unlike that fight he's finding the mark a lot.

Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
Agreed. But there is something in the shots too.
Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
Lots of action in this one! 4 knockdowns in 7 rounds.
Barrera blasts out Shabranskyy out of there with continuous big right hand shots.
Shabranskyy is always in exciting fights. I love watching him and look forward to seeing more of him, but he needs to work on his defense a little definitely.

Did the corner throw in the towel, or did the ref stop it?

Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
Barrera gave an absolute beat down to Ukrainian. That shows how good Barrera is. Just because he lost to Ward doesnt mean he is rubbish. Ward and Kovalev are elite p4p fighters. Barrera is just one level bellow them. That means he will beat nearly anyone else in the division. Some more great fights in the light heavy to come.
Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
Not surprised by this even tho Barrera was a 3-1 dog. Shabranskyy is just average. Losing to Andre friggin Ward doesn't mean Barrera can't fight. He's a good fighter.
Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
I feel like Slava could of probably finished the fight, but he was taking some heavy damage.
One of his biggest faults is not using his height and reach. After he got dropped a couple of fights ago I had some doubts about his defense.

No it doesn't. Shabranskyy is garbage.Tarkus wrote:Barrera gave an absolute beat down to Ukrainian. That shows how good Barrera is.

Would have been more convincing if you have said that before the fight.lookingaround87 wrote:No it doesn't. Shabranskyy is garbage.Tarkus wrote:Barrera gave an absolute beat down to Ukrainian. That shows how good Barrera is.

I'll be helping myself to a big bowl of crow. Barrera is better than I thought, Shabranskyy is a lot worse.
Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
Shabby is your atypical too upright eastern-euro fighter. Too damn easy to hit. Guys like Kovalev and Lomo are rare exceptions. He moves his head about as well as Kudryashov and Mehkontsev do.
Re: Shabranskyy - Barrera (TODAY!)
I said that this would be the strongest fight stylistically on what was a rather weak month of boxing on HBO.
It was a great fight with a ton of action. Barrera showed a lot of heart tonight.
I would love to see Barrera in the ring against Beterbiev next. That would be another really good fight.

I barely post on here. The writing was on the wall after the Parker fight. Shabranskyy could not stop the right hand except with his jaw, guy was definitely technically over matched with a ton of holes in his defense.

Shabranskyy was sick ...actually .. too sick !!

Wtf is wrong with all his promoters !??
this is not bogus info either .. coming from a very close family friend of his .
