Floyd will get plenty of criticism if he gets the 50-0 mark that way. Not that it really matters. The whole reaching 50-0 thing is such a big deal just to see if you could surpass Rocky Marciano's achievement, and Floyd surpassed Marciano's achievements years ago. It's all gravy from here.
I think it does matter to a degree. At least fight a top level opponent or what's the point, in a boxing sense? He could fight another 50 domestic level opponents and do 100-0 if he wanted, but that doesn't make him the greatest
Chavez well cleared them numbers anyway. I like floyd he's an incredible boxer. But history could remember him even better if he did a couple things different
Floyd's not going to be the greatest fighter of all time unless he does absolutely unthinkable things in the next few years. He'd have to move up and beat GGG to even get into a serious conversation about being THE BEST EVER which he so loves to claim. There's no way in hell that's going to happen so there's no way in hell he's ever going to be considered the best ever by anything other than his nuthugging fanboys.
He's established himself as one of the 20 greatest that's ever laced up a pair of gloves in my opinion, which given the extremely rich history of our sport is pretty damn amazing in and of itself.
A win over Conor McGregor won't raise his legacy any for the die hards, but the 50-0 mark will still elevate him in the minds of casual fans just because it looks so pretty on paper, and most casual fans know Conor McGregor better than they know Robert Guerrero or Andre Berto or people like that so that'll mean more to them because they just don't know the sport that well. They just know names.
