Shawn Porter vs Andre Berto live on Sky Sports

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

The New York fight between welterweights Shawn Porter and Andre Berto will be shown live on Sky Sports.

The former world champions meet on a packed night at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, in the early hours of Sunday, April 23.

Porter and Berto's fight tops the bill with Jermell Charlo defending his WBC super-welterweight title, and unbeaten heavyweight Luis Ortiz back on American soil.

The undercard also has some relevance with Charlo under the guidance of Derrick James, the man in Errol Spence Jr's corner for his welterweight challenge in Sheffield, next month.

Before our coverage heads to America, there is a cross-roads fight between Martin Murray and Gabriel Rosado live from the Echo Arena on Sky Sports. Both know the winner will close in on another world title challenge.

Might stay up for this with it being in NY. I favour Porter in the fight, would be good to see him make a bit of a statement and stop Berto.

Good old Sky.

It's got a bit of the Morales-Barrera about this one.

You think it's Budget range boxing from sky, until they point out this fascinating addition to the card:

"The undercard also has some relevance with Charlo under the guidance of Derrick James, the man in Errol Spence Jr's corner for his welterweight challenge in Sheffield, next month"

How about that for added drama, I'm really surprised it's not pay per view just for this fact alone.

I figure Porter wins at least 9 rounds out of 12 against Berto. Maybe more. Berto is basically a guy that throws one punch at a time hoping to land the big shot, doesn't usually have the power to land that big shot...at least not against this level of competition, and can be outboxed and outworked quite easily.

Outside of catching Porter with a big KO shot Berto really doesn't have much of a chance here, and is going to lose a lopsided fight.

Porter/Berto both exciting, fun to watch guys, whats not to like? I think the styles will gel well for an all action fight, Porter as ever put in a terrific effort against Thurman although he just come up short against a quality operator, I only seen highlights of the Berto's rematch over Ortiz but from what I gather he looked good although i'll put that down to Ortiz being a shot fighter with no hunger left for the game

I'd say Porter is the fresher of the 2 although going off performances there's probably not too much between them, Berto is a little more weary than Porter these days and I se him struggling with Shawn's relentless aggression, you know Porter will not stop marching forward, hustling, bustling and making things hot for Berto, I doubt Berto can keep up with it for 12 rounds, Andre's got tons of heart but eventually I see Porter wearing him down late on, I'm expecting a mini classic though

So as expected Berto couldn't keep up with Porter for 12 rounds and was stopped in the 9th after being down 3 times in all, Porter is like an aninal he just never stops coming forward, he's dangerous with the head, not intentinally but its his style he just gets right in your face and lets his hands go, doesn't seem like there's much thought in what he does but because he's so strong its effective, I felt a bit sorry for Berto as he was bullied throughout, he was holding constantly but I cant really blame him as Porter was boaring in with the head all the time, Berto was always complaining to the ref he was probably a little bit lenient with Shawn, in saying that he allowed Berto to hold a lot too

Berto was bullied though, put down with a right hand in the 3rd, both guys cut over the eyes with clashes and you seen Berto give all the warning signs that he wasn't comfortable at all, the 1st KD Porter scored in the 9th was harsh as it was a definite head clash that sent Berto reeling, he never recovered from it really and the ref stepped in after Ported put him down with a left hook this time

Wasn't a great spectacle IMO too much mauling and marauding from Porter and too much holding from Berto, maybe understandably but either it was too messy for my liking, great win for Porter though all the same

The questions now are,

Can Porter dethrone Thurman?

Will Thurman will with wider margins?

Should Porter approach the rematch differently?
