Fights You've Never Seen a Second of but would like to see

Post by Tony1244 »

I don't mean like Paddy Ryan vs John L. Sullivan because until Apple and Google team up on some wicked technology, we're never going to see that.

I'd like to see:

Bobick-LeDoux 1 & 2

Bobick-B. Johnson

Bobick-Middleton

Lyle-Ellis

Lyle-Bonanvena

These all happened and I can't even find a photo on some of these. Some were televised but apparently unfindable now.

A little fib in there I realized. I saw Bobick-Middleton Live but since then haven't even seen a photo of it and I saw Bobick-B. Johnson on TV, but can't find a youtube or other taping of it.

Lyle vs Bonavena and Ellis have apparently been vaporized like it was something out of Orwell's 1984.

I'd like to see more of Elisha Obed in his prime. I posted his title defense against Tony Gardner in Nassau on YouTube, but I'd like to see the Sea Robinson fight and the Eckhard Dagge defense as well.

Seeing something of Edgar "Mad Dog" Ross would be great too. Strange that he could be a top ranked contender for so long and in line for several title shots that never materialized and there isn't one second of footage available anywhere to my knowledge.

I'll take a copy of Michael Dokes against Roughhouse Fischer from the Ali-Holmes undercard as well if anyone's got it too. Strange that there's no footage of it laying around either.

Not many will agree with me but I'd like to see footage of the European title fight in Rome between Piero Tomasoni and Henry Cooper.

I think the above fights are available to see.

My list are fights I've been looking for but can't even find a 5 second clip of.

Never seen the Mattioli-Dagge clip, sorry.
I do know Tony Gardner told me a strange story about having a good payday ruined to fight Mattioli in Italy because of an earthquake near the stadium and the fight got cancelled.

I'd like to see footage of local fighters that I used to train with at Singer's Gym in downtown Buffalo back in the day when I was first starting out.
One of them was southpaw puncher/journeyman Vic Brown who fought some of the best of his era such as Floyd Patterson, Ken Norton, George Chuvalo, Ernie Terrell & Al "Blue" Lewis. The fights of his that I'd most like to see ( if they had been filmed at all ) were his bouts with Patterson, Terrell & Norton.
He was supposed to have given a good account of himself vs Patterson, had Terrell out of his feet at one point & had Norton on the canvas. But, other than the briefest mention of the Norton fight, I have yet to even find any detailed accounts of these bouts.
Another fighter that I trained with & actually provided sparring for was lightweight contender Ralph Racine who beat other world class fighters such as Larry Stanton, "Cocoa" Sanchez & Dale Hernandez. He also fought world title challengers "Diablito" Valdez & Gaetan Hart as well as future world champion Hilmer Kenty, whom he dropped twice.
Lastly, there's Pat Cuillo who was a top 20 light heavyweight/cruiserweight who beat the likes of Jimmy Young, Steve Zouski & Leon "Nightlife" McDonald & also fought world champions & contenders such as Eddie Gregory, Dwight Braxton, Ricky Parley & Tony Mundine.
I'd love to see any footage that exists of any of these three fighters in action.

The Corbett-Fitzsimmons Fight was filmed but lost. I'd like to see that both for history of boxing and cinema, though I think parts survive.

I think I saw partial footage of this fight, beautifully restored, some years ago, perhaps on The Ring website, with similar ancient films of the heavyweight champs of yore. Fitzsimmons looked like he punched with tremendous clout. Every shot like a falling piano!

Absolutely! It seems like a fight that would have been filmed?

Merrit's bout with Stan Ward was broadcast live on the undercard of a Foreman fight, some here have claimed to possess it over the years.

Merritt-Ward is a great example of a fight I saw when it happened on TV but haven't seen since. If I remember correctly, Merritt was winning the fight and Ward KOd him quickly perhaps with 1 punch.
