WBO Europe
WBO Europe
Are WBO European titles recognised by the BBBoC?
Quite a few WBO European titles been on allegedly, but unsure if they're classed as "unlicensed", or non-BBBoC licensed, or whether the Board permit them, which would be odd due to their affiliation with the EBU.
Help appreciaed.

Re: WBO Europe
Why bother with the pretence, just say what you want to say.
Re: WBO Europe
The WBO Europe belt is just another farcical title similar to 'international ' and ' silver ' titles which are totally meaningless. The Board would not acknowledge any boxer as the European champion unless they held the EBU belt.
Re: WBO Europe
Im sure if u fight for wbo European title u can't fight for the European title afterwards
Re: WBO Europe
You are European champion if you hold the ebu
The governing bodies are making boxing a shambles
WBC not too bad
WBA have 2 world titles normal and silver ffs. And s shitload of silver international continental type titles
Ibf stripped fury after 2 weeks. Joke
Wbo as above
Get rid of wbo as recognised belt and ibf. Ideally have only 1 belt but 2 is manageable. At least the wba and wbc have history. WBA badly needs to streamline its belts though

Re: WBO Europe
BBBoC recognise it as they are a member of WBO. It is in direct competition with EBU, therefore EBU do not allow their registered officials to work on these titles. I don't think it bars boxers from fighting for there titles. Tend to find certain promoters affiliate themselves with one or the other. One advantage WBO his that a Euro champ gets them in there world rankings. (Top 15 I think)dw01 wrote:Are WBO European titles recognised by the BBBoC?

Re: WBO Europe
The EBU is the European title.
The WBO could create a British title if they wanted. Winning it wouldn't make you British champion, that is reserved for the BBBC belt holder..
To me this is just another interim/international/intercontinental/silver title.
It'll probably give you a wee bump up WBO rankings

Re: WBO Europe
Whatever happened to British Masters titles??? A pity these other spurious titles don't go the same way.
Re: WBO Europe
Just a ranking title isn't it? Nothing more nothing less. If I was a pro and won any title I'd be proud of it right enough.

I won one of them on a scratch card before.handsofstone wrote:I remember going to a show here and seeing an 8 round fight for the British Masters Bronze title
Re: WBO Europe
They were just a title for small hall shows and didn't boost a fighter's ranking in anyway, still I reckon boxers of a certain level were proud when they won one. Haven't they been replaced by the Challenge Belt now?roy wrote:Whatever happened to British Masters titles??? A pity these other spurious titles don't go the same way.
Re: WBO Europe
Watching Cassius and Helder on BN just now and they introduced Liam Williams as European champion.
We know it'spish but the problem is when it started jyst casually getting recognised in the media.
How long before we have a European champions and a WBA,WBO,WBC,IBF European champion as well as minor sanctioning body Europan champions

Re: WBO Europe
I believe that WBU and UBO have a 'European' belt, I would be surprised if other sanctioning bodies didn't. Plenty have an Asia-Pacific belt but nobody calls the holder a regional champion and so WBO Europe titleists definitely shouldn't be introduced like that...davie wrote:Watching Cassius and Helder on BN just now and they introduced Liam Williams as European champion.

Re: WBO Europe
It's just another belt developed by the one of the major boxing organisers in order to add value to their world title and expand into other markets.
All of the major organisations have their own area/lesser champions and even some of the lesser world bodies make these regional titles and to an extent I do agree with them.
Joseph Parker the Current WBO heavyweight champion, held the WBO oriental heavyweight title for a long time and his team used it in order to promote him as a leading force in the region while he tore through it. Even British boxers have been competing for the International, Silver, intercontinental titles of the IBF, WBC WBA and even the WBO for years. These belts give them a chance to step up against other contenders and for their promoters to add a minor title fight to their events.
Personally I see these belts as a way of stepping up to face harder opposition. The promoter gets to add a variant of the world title to their events, the boxer gets a new challenge & trophy and potentially it can make for an interesting bargaining point if they want to push for the EBU title later on.

Re: WBO Europe
If boxing is the way it should be with just one world champion in a weight class the European title (EBU) would be a massive deal.
It's a shame how fighters and promoters would rather win a WBC silver title looks at Poundshop Broner Ohara Davies parading about with history belt whilst he bypasses domestic level and turns down Tyrone Nurse for the British.
These fake belts are one of modern boxings biggest problems. However it is the fighters that lose out. Whilst taking shortcuts to world titles they are skipping important development fights at Domestic and international level.

Re: WBO Europe
The WBO European title is just something invented by FW to flash up his shows. This is not as good as the EU title which Lenny Daws won a couple of years ago, which by the way is a lesser title than the proper EBU title that Henry Cooper, Dave Charnley & the Gr8 Ken Buchanan won years ago, its a diluted title that just suits himself & then one has to listen to the nonsense of one of his fighters telling us after winning it that they are No4 in the world rankings when in truth they are not even No4 in their own country. This nonsense belt business is beyond a joke boxing is no longer like what it used to be years ago which is the main reason hoards of people are fed up with it. Years ago we had the Nobby Nobbs stable, they mostly lost but always gave a good account of themselves, these days we have to endure the Latvian losers that fill our boxing bills. One can pick the winners without any difficulty which is a joke the 50/50 matches of yesteryear are a thing of the past, & of course the board allow it which is an even bigger joke.

Thank you.
Was a little surprised when I noticed the wbo europe titles and just thought that there'd be some sort of rule / regulation somewhere within the EBU or BBBoC that would mean they'd only recognised one European title, that's all,. As they do only one commission per geographical area/country. Same type of thing. Guess not.
