A fighter put a top level fighter in place. Give examples.

Post by magwitch »

Ok let me explain. The other day one of these social media boxing pages had a Barrera Hamed video up.
We all know that Hamed was not at his best (nowhere even close to his best, depending who you listen to) - in that respect it says something about how good you are if you can hang 12 with Barrera whilst not training right.

But - let’s suppose that a peak Naseem had (I said let’s suppose) that he had taken out Barrera. That for me would have been a remarkable victory!

So it got me thinking......are there some examples where an A class fighter has come up against another A class fighter and completely flipped them over? I’m talking about winning a bit of a one-sided contest against another A* class fighter? :maybe:

There must be some. To kick off - for example - what about Vernon Forest doing a complete and utter job on Shane Moseley?

Say some more...

I’m gonna throw Holyfield Tyson I in there. From what I can remember, mostly one way traffic.
Was Mike still “top class” at that time though? I can’t remember.

Foreman Frazier is exactly the kind of thing I’m talking about. Good one

Another example (maybe) is where that Lopez fella came out and spanked Daniel Ponce De Leon in about 2 minutes flat.
Personally, I thought De Leon looked kind of cumbersome - but he’d made about 5 defences of a world title I think...

Lopez came unstuck further down the road I think, but that night he looked as slick as it gets!

Another good one :TU: .....say what you like about Broner, but he’s competent in there. Good example. And completely one sided.

Michael Watson could be regarded as class, but I read his book and that Bodysnatcher guy beat him. McCallum. Not sure if it was by a margin tho........in fact you could put Michael Watson - Nigel Benn into this for me. Absolutely stood him on his head and then finished him - with a jab!

McCallum was (at least) a class above Watson, he brutalised him

Watson had a reason in his book. It was on, then off, then on again when he was injured....but they always seem to have a reason.
Froch said the location helped him to lose to Andre Ward

True, but Hopkins was only A* in name by that point, surely.

Hopkins - Pavlik? Maybe.

To be fair facing a peak McCallum after 13 months or so out of the ring couldn't have been ideal but the result wouldn't have been changed in the slightest

Caballero - Molitor was a one sided 4 rounds, apparently. Too tall, too long arms.

Wasn’t De La Hoya a shell that night, undone by weight or something. He barely threw a punch and it was his last fight....I think.
Although Pacman did look bull strong. He couldn’t miss.

Beat me to it. Jones was untouchable in his prime.

Jones-Hopkins as well, although Hopkins wasn't really at his best at that point.
