Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao - Suncorp Stadium - July 2nd

Post by Like a Boss »

Manny Pacquiao's adviser Mike Koncz has confirmed to FOX Sports that his fighter will clash with Jeff Horn at Brisbane’s Suncorp Arena on July 2.

“Jeff wasn’t our first preference, it was Amir Khan,” Koncz said.

“That didn’t work out and we had this on the table so we decided to take it.

“Manny will train and do the best he can and hopefully we get the fight over with very quickly, we get out of there, say hi to the Australian fans and media and come home.”

Koncz was adamant that Pacquiao signed a binding contract on Wednesday — and everything had been confirmed.

“It’s all done, it’s finished. It’s done,” Koncz said.

“I’m hoping and I’m certain that Australia will get behind the fight, that’s very important and it’s important for Manny to go there and give a good showing to his Australian fans and the Australian people in general.

Horrible, waste of time fight. Pay has the right to take whatever type of fight he wants at this stage, just a shame that this doesn't even seem to fit that bill.

Pacquiao may yet fight Khan next.

Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz has said he was still hoping to set up a Pacquiao-Khan fight in either the Middle East or the Philippines in October or November.

Probably Jorge Solis a decade ago. But Algieri and Rios really weren't all that different.

I have no problem with this fight. Pac is giving an up and comer a great financial opportunity and he is doing a bit of a world tour in the process. This will be massive in Australia and Asia.

I think it is good for boxing.

I wouldn't mind (if Indongo gets by Burns) for him to go to Africa next. This type of fairwell tour would be great for the sport. Hell, if Burns pulls it off v Indongo, it would be great to see Pac invade the UK.

I got no issue with this fight. Pacquiao is making the rounds on his retirement tour. Everyone expecting him to be in Superfights all the time at this point is being delusional. Most fighters...even the ATG's in his position, at his age, fight some softer touches at this stage of their career...and sometimes those "softer touches" beat 'em.

It gives Jeff Horn the opportunity to become a modern day Cinderella Man.

Nobody thought Braddock could beat Baer either, and he couldn't have unless he got the opportunity.

This is a huge venture for Brisbane and plainly there will be many potential obstacles along the way, but everything points to this fight being a done deal :

Pacquiao signs to fight Horn

It’s on! WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has signed on the dotted line Thursday to defend the title on July 2 against WBO #2 Jeff Horn at the Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Queensland Australia and he will start training for the fight in the first week of May.

“Manny Pacquiao already signed the contract early this week,” Pacquiao’s media relations officer Aquiles Zonio told The Manila Times in a phone interview on Thursday".

“Mike Koncz already informed me that Manny has signed the contract. The official training will start in the first week of May and it’s going to be here in Manila because there are still sessions at the Senate.”

I've also got no problem with this fight. Nobody has Pac rated #1 anymore, he's on his retirement tour. Honestly, and I usually go for the old guy in these fights, but I'd much rather see Pac lose to a young guy than to someone already established. I'd love to see Jeff win, and then get him in there with guys like Amir.
