He wants to unify CW division, so I expect him to face one of the belt-holders.

After yesterday's bleak performance, I don't expect K2 to put him against Gassiev or Briedis. Possibly Lebedev who they may hope is sliding or Dorticos.

Hopefully Briedis or Bellew. Gassiev would be OK but he's only 23 and probably needs a few years before he can compete with Usyk, if ever.

Gassiev confidently defeated Lebedev, and he would do the same with Usyk.jujigatame wrote:Hopefully Briedis or Bellew. Gassiev would be OK but he's only 23 and probably needs a few years before he can compete with Usyk, if ever.

I doubt it. Usyk is much, much better than Lebedev.boxing_rocks wrote:Gassiev confidently defeated Lebedev, and he would do the same with Usyk.jujigatame wrote:Hopefully Briedis or Bellew. Gassiev would be OK but he's only 23 and probably needs a few years before he can compete with Usyk, if ever.

Based on what? Every time somebody fights back he doesn't look good. Yesterday, he had a slapping opponent against him and he still had to cover up and move back. If there was power in Hunter's punches, Usyk would be in trouble.jujigatame wrote:I doubt it. Usyk's defense is pretty tight, Hunter landed very few clean punches. Usyk also has a very high workrate and throws a huge amount of punches for a big guy. Lebedev is more of a plodder and he still won 4 or 5 rounds against Gassiev.

Stop kidding yourself, Lebedev has been a top flight boxer for a very long time, and he is tough as a wolverine.jujigatame wrote:Usyk's defense is pretty tight, Hunter landed very few clean punches. Lebedev is super tough, no doubt, but I don't think he has the workrate or craft of Usyk.
Re: who is usyk expected to fight next ? *
I agree on workrate but Usyk has a long way to go to prove he is as tough or skilled as Lebedev.jujigatame wrote:Lebedev is super tough, no doubt, but I don't think he has the workrate or craft of Usyk.

Forget about Bellew and Lebedev. One isnt anymore fighting CW. The other is fighting in Russia and noone in his right mind is going to fight there.
I imagine Lebedev will get Gassiev rematch because of the controversial endingn. So that takes care of a Gassiev fight.
So who are we left with? For me Briedis and Dorticos are the best options and a winner of Wlodarchyk Gevor is an acceptable option.

Is Dorticos actually any good? He was behind on the cards when he stopped Kalenga, and I don't think of Kalenga as anything special.

I thought Bellew fighting at HW was a 1-time thing?Tarkus wrote:Forget about Bellew and Lebedev. One isnt anymore fighting CW. The other is fighting in Russia and noone in his right mind is going to fight there.

I don't think so. The money and the glory are at the HW. Bellew needs one lucrative match at HW, perhaps two, and retire as a wealthy man after that.jujigatame wrote:I thought Bellew fighting at HW was a 1-time thing?Tarkus wrote:Forget about Bellew and Lebedev. grassiev or breidis
Re: who is usyk expected to fight next ? *
Usyk looked sloppy at times last night, but he would beat Lebedev fairly comfortably in my opinion. I think Denis will probably be on the slide from this point...
Re: who is usyk expected to fight next ? *
What makes you so sure? I thought he only scraped by Lebedev, and there were numerous rounds in which his output was wanting. He's very strong and took Leb's shots like they were nothing, but he seemed a bit basic (no jab, only moves forward, etc.) and one-paced.boxing_rocks wrote:Gassiev confidently defeated Lebedev, and he would do the same with Usyk.jujigatame wrote:Hopefully Briedis or Bellew. Yes, Gassiev is very young and has room for improvement. However, based on what I saw yesterday, I think that he would beat Usyk easier than Lebedev.crusader wrote:What makes you so sure? I like Hunter and have been following him since his amateur days. I was expecting him to put in a respectable showing and I think he showed flashes of very nice ability, but he didn't have the tank to keep up the approach he was taking. I think some more experience in competitive fights would've helped him manage his reserves better.

Are wolverines actually very tough, I prefer the honey badger, ferocious little honey badgers

Honey badger v wolverine would be like Pac v 3G. Forget about it.watsupdoc87 wrote:Tanzio wrote:Stop kidding yourself, Lebedev has been a top flight boxer for a very long time, and he is tough as a wolverine.jujigatame wrote:Usyk's defense is pretty tight, Hunter landed very few clean punches. I applaud Hunter, but lack of power in the heavier divisions is a big problem. Hunter was successful for a while, because Usyk himself is not a big puncher.Tanzio wrote:People are giving Hunter mighty little respect.boxing_rocks wrote:Yes, Gassiev is very young and has room for improvement. I want him to face Gassiev, but I think they're going to lean towards Briedis. After what I'm hearing about his last fight (I didn't catch it), I'm thinking Briedis might be a stylistic nightmare now. Hard to say because Briedis and Gassiev are both so damn legit. Crusierweight is just too damn stacked.
