Vasyl Lomachenko is P4P #1
- Andre Ward was not impressive in his last fight, getting knocked down and receiving a gift decision from the judges, needing to use very negative tactics to survive the distance
- Sergey Kovalev was not especially impressive, although he clearly did enough to deserve to win
- Roman Gonzalez was not especially impressive in his past two fights, although he probably should have received a win in his last fight
- Age 35 Gennady Golovkin looked a bit past his best in his last fight, although he's still very good and won the fight against a very strong opponent in Daniel Jacobs
In contrast, Vasyl Lomachenko has been very impressive in his past three fights, completely dominating world-class opponents.
I'm not sure how to accurately sort out the rest of the top ten P4P, but it seems clear to me that Lomachenko should be P4P #1 at this time.

I think Crawford is.

I'd say he was around the top 5, though it's not like he's some P4P talent.MachoTime wrote:Sosa was world class?Freedom2013 wrote:- Andre Ward was not impressive in his last fight, getting knocked down and receiving a gift decision from the judges, needing to use very negative tactics to survive the distance

I think he's good enough to be, but hasn't had the kinda performances to put him there just yet.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I think Crawford is.

Just one loss from years back. Was ranked in the BoxRec top 5 at 130 before the fight. Stopped highly-regarded Fortuna.MachoTime wrote: Sosa was world class?

He is not P4P No. 1.
His record is too weak.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko is P4P #1
Considering he's still got less than 10 fights I'd say his record is pretty phenomenal. Russell, Martinez, Sosa and especially Walters are all pretty damn solid scalps for any fighter.Horse wrote:He is not P4P No. 1.

His performances are dominant. Not sure what you're seeing there.gilgamesh wrote:I think he's good enough to be, but hasn't had the kinda performances to put him there just yet.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I think Crawford is.

To be the P4P No. 1? Yes!Freedom2013 wrote:Weak?
Are you kidding? Why can't we wait?
Are you trying to turn people against him?
Stop with the nonsense.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko is P4P #1
They definitely have been. I guess I just haven't seen him do it against a guy I'd consider as talented as Walters, though that may just be me overestimating Walters.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:His performances are dominant. He's certainly a phenomenal talent, and I expect he'll continue to be a force at 140 and 147 for a while to come. Nobody at 140 can beat him right now.
Speaking of which. What's the word on Terence Crawford? Seems we oughta be hearing about his next fight soon.

Disappointing opponent, but after that he's said he's going to 147 for bigger fights.

Diaz is quite good. That's a nice fight.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko is P4P #1
Diaz isn't a disappointing opponent at all to me. Diaz is a quality fighter and deserves a big opportunity. I had Diaz ranked #8 at 147 up until recently when he moved back to 140.Freedom2013 wrote:Felix Diaz May 20.gilgamesh wrote:Speaking of which. What's the word on Terence Crawford? What's disappointing about Diaz? Guy is a dark horse in the division. Several people think he should've gotten the nod over Peterson.Freedom2013 wrote:Felix Diaz May 20.gilgamesh wrote:Speaking of which. What's the word on Terence Crawford? Seems we oughta be hearing about his next fight soon.

I have him at about #4. The reason Ward and Kovalev looked less impressive in their last fight is 'cos it was against each other - they have both been dominant in their way against good, Sosa-esque guys in the past. And the Salido fight is still recent enough to be significant. Golovkin has seemingly lost a step, Gonzalez has lost more than that, and Inoue, M Garcia and Thurman haven't themselves done quite enough yet for top 5, but #4 (behind Ward, Kov, and Crawford) feels about right for Loma and is more of a testament to his abilities than a criticism.
Maybe in ten years people will look back on this era as the beginning of the Lomachenko era and the ambiguities of the current day will be somewhat whitewashed, like how so many think the end of the Whitaker #1 era is the beginning of the RJJ #1 era and the end of that is the FMJ #1 era, forgetting that the likes of De La Hoya, Mosley and Tszyu had brief but justifiable claims during that time. We'll just have to wait and see on that.

I have Loma currently #2 in P4P rankings. I could see anyone having him from #1 to #4 honestly.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko is P4P #1
Edwin Valero was something like 27-0 with 27 KO's and didn't get anywhere near half the hype (nut hugging) Loma has with only 9 fights and a loss.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko is P4P #1
Loma already has better wins than Valero

Wilder is 38-0, but he has only one decent win, while Loma has at least 3 wins better than Stiverne.Badhusker wrote:Edwin Valero was something like 27-0 with 27 KO's and didn't get anywhere near half the hype (nut hugging) Loma has with only 9 fights and a loss.
