I Love Tyson Prime

Post by damien590 »

What is there not to like about a 19-20yr old Tyson? I will go on the record
for saying he's the best since Sugar Ray Robinson & Ali!

Can ya'll argue that?

At that young age, he probably woulda knocked both of them out by the 7th or 8th round.

That's a laugh riot. Ali would resort to hugging and holding Tyson, just as Lewis resorted to.

you all are riot for being so impressed by tyson destroying nobodies. whenever he got in with someone that fought back, or when push came to shve, he always folded. when push came to shove for Ali, he would fight to the death if he had to. pull your head out of your ass and you'll see what i'm talking about

I don't get busting on Lewis, when Tyson was only there to cash a paycheck.

Yeah, I was a big fan of young Tyson, and I still believe he could have done so much more with proper handling. But how anyone can fault Lewis for systematically kicking Tyson's ass is beyond me. Lennox beat him fair and square, and soundly.

Not a very hard thing to have done at the stage Tyson was at in his career.

Personally - if they would have fought back in the early 1990's before Tyson's incarceration - I think Lewis would have gone the same way that Razor Rudduck did back in those days (meaning either a UD or TKO at some point).

Agreed. Unfortunately it's all speculative. I was responding to the assertion that Lewis hugged his way to a victory, which is preposterous.

After some of your other efforts on other posts I'm wondering whether you make stupid comments as a wind up. Would he beat Ali no and if you believe that you need to go to a psychiatic hospital for treatment for delusions. Would he beat Robinson? Well beating a welterweight isn't a big achievement is it when you are a HW! Muppet!

The best since Ali/Robinson? Yeah right!

Its all speculation, but I too doubt even prime Mike could take Ali. I dont believe Ali is the greatest, but Tyson couldnt have taken him.

A prime Tyson DOESN'T beats a prime Lewis, Ali, Foreman, Louis, Holmes and possibly quite a few others. Just look at the other 'great' HW's Tyson fought: Holyfield and Lewis, he got his ass handed to him on all 3 occasions. The reason Tyson looked so good in his prime is that, after Larry Holmes, there really wasn't a whole lot of talent at HW in the mid to late 80's... Trevor Berbick, Bonecrusher Smith, Tony Tucker, Frank Bruno, Michael Spinks... all either past their prime or never had a prime in the first place. Tyson was exciting, but continues to be hugely overrated.

Why mention Lewis? Ali, Foreman, and Louis would never have got knocked out by Rahman. Lewis was the most overrated. Holyfield and Lewis fought an overly medicated, emotionally damaged felon.
I mentioned him because he would've knocked Tyson out just as quickly in 1992 as he did in 2002. :TU:

In 1987 Tyson would have broken Lewis' jaw. Face it, Lennox Lewis was the beginning of what is now the weakest HW division ever.
Are you deluded? Look at the list of stiffs Tyson fought in the 80's! The only decent name is a 'waaaay past his best' Larry Holmes. Wake up and smell the hype, son. :box:

You liked and tyson liked it early because he didn't fight anybody. That is when tyson was best. When he fought bums and has-beens who were afraid of him. I still would like to know what was his best win??

We're talking "Prime Tyson, in his early 20's, Chump..... The only time anyone ever stood up to a semi young Tyson was Buster Douglas, but that night, Doulgas would have probably beaten any past champion. Douglas was on fire!!

When "Holding and Head-Butting" Holyfield fought Tyson, it was a semi-older Tyson. Same with "B*tch hugging" Lewis and Williams and McBride.

Pull your head out, and remember.... Prime Tyson..... not a Tyson who's been in the fight game for already 15 years.

HELLO!!!!!???????

And No he doesnt beat Ali.
Yes he does beat Ali. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and this is just mine! I feel a peak Tyson would have had too much ferocity, power/speed for Ali.

Mike Tyson defeated Mike Tyson, no one else truly has. They've only fought a shell of a man.
I agree with that, although saying some fighters only fought a 'shell' of what Tyson was @ his best, maybe stretching it a bit, but I understand what you're saying. Listen, there's no excuses for a loss, and Tyson, and Tyson takes the blame for his defeats, but when he's lost a bout, they were not a peak Tyson in there!

I would go so far to say that a peak Mike Tyson was the most naturally talented, physically gifted HW ever in history. I justs believe he was. No one was as good as he was @ such a young age, like Mike Tyson was!

Is Mike Tyson the best HW ever? I don't know, but make no mistake, whatever HW, past/present, had fought a peak Mike Tyson, they would have been in the 'fight of their life', and would have had to fought a so-near perfect bout to defeat a peak Mike Tyson, and then they still may not have done it!

Tyson was someting very special; There will not be another fighter like him for an extremely long time. Hell, there may not be another fighter like him ever again!

Mike Tyson WAS a special fighter. He lit up the heavyweight scene and no boxing fan in his right mind will say that He was not excited by young Mike.

He was lightening quick and put people to sleep.

He would give any heavyweight in history a hard fight.

He was lame in his later years, but brilliant in his early years. Waddya gonna do?

He had the heart to fight a fight to the finish, proved that against Douglas and Holy I.

I believe that Mike earned the right to be compared to other greats.

NOW, I would like to see now if this post will find common acceptance with Tyson haters and nuthuggers alike. There doesn't seem to be any middleground.
Here's hoping..........

The level of delusion amongst Tyson fans is amazing!
This guy doesn't come close to be being in the same league as Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Lewis or Holyfield.
Look at the guys Tyson fought! How many Ken Norton's and Joe Frazier's are on his record? Guys like Pinklon Thomas, Tyrell Biggs and Tony Tubbs wouldn't even be outstanding in todays HW division. It says so much about Tyson that his best win (whilst in his 'prime') came against Donovan Ruddock.

Fought in a bad era.

Beat only a few good HW fighters who were in their prime.

Went the distance with big guys who were not scared.

Rarely KOed people after 6 rounds.

Never avenged his defeats.

When it got really tough he lost.

Got beat by the best people he fought, granted he was past his prime.

A boxer who's prime lasts 2-3 years or only dominates for 2-3 years cannot be classed as great.

Got beat by probably one of the biggest underdogs with the biggest odds in any sport.

Not a good role model is he?

BUT

He livened up a dull era and I wish someone like him would come around now.

Had great physical attributes.

Dominated and beat who was in front of him if only for a short period.

Never ducked anyone (well Lewis later on and maybe Witherspoon?).

Could probably do well and survive in most era's even he he didn't become World Champion.

One of the greats though? NO.
