Scotland seem to be terrible at every sport; they must be the least athletic, most scrawny, pale people in the world. The only sport they seem to be ok at is that ridiculous sport on ice where they roll something that looks like a massive cheese and then scrub the ice with some old garden brooms....and I've never ever met anyone who's ever played this, so maybe that's why they do well. No one else plays the silly game.

I think it's a difficult thing look at all the Scottish fighters going away to train in London.. 3 high profile ones.. Ricky with Tony Sims.. Charlie Flynn with Peter Sims and it's a running joke about the quiff.. Then you have Josh Taylor with Shane Mcguigan.. Then we have Ronnie Clark training in Belfast with Tony Dunlop.. What's the problem with Scottish Boxing it's certainly no lack of good trainers.. Billy Nelson and Peter Harrison are elite trainers.. Ask yourself a question why can Flynn and Collins sell 1000 tickets between them??? Thats enough to headline a very good small hall show.. Why is the small hall shows struggling in Scotland,, Simple Answer to that too many easy fights on paper.. Let's just bring in a foreign opponent and save £1000... You will lose that on ticket sales alone.. I would rather see all Scottish fights and competitive fights than some of the drivel I have needed to watch.. It's worse when people say to the promoters face it was a good show.. Be nice to promoters or you won't get fights.. If it's a terrible fight should just say.. I have seen some of the worst mismatch fights ever in pro boxing.. MTK seem to be wanting to change that so good luck to them and I hope they push this forward more..

The other reason Scottish Boxing struggles is loyalty or sorry lack of loyalty biggest bitches you will ever find are in the boxing world.. There is no loyalty from boxers to coaches right up to managers seems to be just an interest in making money and only interested in themselves.. So many people are strong outwith boxing then step into boxing then sit on the fence.. If Ricky believes Ohara would be Josh then fair play to him for not sitting on the fence.. This is a close fight that's hard to close both look very good.. Got to remember Josh was beaten by Martin J Ward twice in the amateurs so they will be very confident.. There wasn't a kick off as Josh said Cacacae would beat Clark and he was right.. Everyone is hanging on to the coat tails of Eddie Hearn wanting the crumbs from his table.. Scottish boxing should find its own way and stop begging

Knew indongo would beat Burns

Thought he'd starch him in round 8 or 9tbh, that didn't happen but FairPlay to Ricky he's had a good career

Didn't Indongo have a big fry up the morning of the fight?

All in the hands of Josh Taylor now for Scottish boxing, think Taylor would beat Davies :box:

Charlie Flynn was training with Peter Harrison, I spoke with Peter at his gym when i was down for sparring and he said that Charlie struggled to get peace staying in Scotland and the fact he was in London where nobody recognised him walking down the street was a big part of moving coaches. I too would prefer that Scottish boxers would stay here and train with coaches they know but you know it sometimes isn't as easy to do that.

As far as I'm aware part of the McGuigans signing Josh was that he trained with Shane and you should know that as it is something very similar when Ronnie was signing with Mark Dunlop, Mark wanted Ronnie over there with his team. I understand the reasoning for this, if you are going to put your money into someone you want to see how they are progressing with someone you trust and have worked with for years.

It is part of boxing and almost any walk of life and you just have to deal with it, hopefully more Scottish lads get matched against each other and I have heard that Michael Roberts vs Stephen Tiffany has been made. Great fight imo and if we can have more like that then i'll be happy.

Ref bringing in foreigners, if the matchmaker does his job right and the managers don't just take the first crap on offer then there is a lot of worthwhile, learning fights that can be made the problem comes when managers just want knock over jobs that does the show or the fighters no good whatsoever.

Well Andy Murray is not top of his sport technically but yes he is doing very well. But he's just the exception that proves the rule.

Check the countries or the same or lower populations and think how many better sportsmen come from there....https://www.cia.gov/library/publication ... 9rank.html
some examples:

Jamaica (2.5 million less inhabitants) - haven't even got the time to list all the names. Just start with Usain Bolt.

Puerto Rico (2 million less inhabitants) - again as a boxing forum no need to even list names

New Zealand (1 million less inhabitants) - Best Rugby nation, Joseph Parker, Richard Hadlee, David Tua, Jonah Lomu (best rugby player ever.)

Denmark (similar pop) - Kessler, Jacobsen, bredhal brothers, loads of winter sports stars.... footballers

Just do your own reaearch too many to mention

I would understand if he had went with someone like Adam booth or or jimmy tibbs but for Peter sims is a sheer insult to billy. He chased the money and loyalty went out the window, he can't even blame lack of sparring as billy always had the best of fighters up here. I hate when people say Ricky is keeping boxing alive up here as every Scottish fighter who has had any form of decent shot up here has been against the odds. I hope josh can pick up the mantle but have a feeling that's gonna be on terrestrial tv or bt sport.
if put Jason Easton in with Di Rocco, that was great matchmaking getting him to fight for a vacant world title, Jason would stop him quickly

Billy what's your views on Scottish boxing and where we are at? Who can challenge etc. Also interesting before that last fight we kinda ruled that josh was a step above Jason and we have kinda said fight wouldn't happen. If your training Ricky do you put him in with josh? Great signing and where you see tommy going if her gets through quigley?

Scottish boxers should be sitting on the fence when these instances come up and Ricky should be talking Josh up for the sake of the younger boys coming up. I really don't understand how they back guys in their gym, boxing is not a team sport so their is no reason for it. Doesn't matter how much I dislike a Scottish boxer I will always want them to win as any form of Scottish win boosts boxing. People say about Ricky bringing back boxing for Scotland but it's laughable, we have a commonwealth gold medalist in Charlie Flynn fighting on Facebook , a major ticket seller in joe ham on Facebook, a wannabe Scotsman in Scotty Cardle who is about as Scottish as Wayne Rooney, and Iain butcher coming in as the away fighter in his own country against an englishman. It's a joke!!!
That's embarrassing
Sky choose to not televise Ham & Flynn. So matchroom added those on facebook. Sky wanted the Olympians.

The scots punch pretty well for their weight in a few sports. It's basically football that they come up embarrassingly short (apart from management obviously)

Love the Scottish sense of humour, plus they can booze with the best of them.

As for Ricky Burns, comes across as a lovely fella to me. Not a true three weight champion in my eyes though. His super featherweight was a great win, but since then? I reckon I could have beaten Nicky Cook and Di Rocco.

He is top of the sport technically even if not actually in the sense that he is ranked number one in the world in the latest ATP rankings but I do not think many would say he is the actual best and would still have Novak Djokovic above him.

Burns entrance was class in that one. Bit of Hardcore Feelings :yay:

The fight ended up being investigated because of how Cook went out and betting patterns etc... Can't remember what happened with that. Probably nothing.

Somebody earlier on the nail on the head with the REAL problem with Scottish boxing.
If anyone has the time look at any 20 or so active Scots boxers and look at their opponents records in terms of wins and losses. It's absolutely staggering!
How can anybody improve when you are consistently fighting useless no-hopers fight after fight. Promoters, I can appreciate, are struggling financially, and the only way to balance the books is to have the big ticket sellers on their shows. And apparently, the position is that if the fans favourite looses then their friends stop buying tickets. I suspect the real reason is the price of the tickets.
While the promoters are keeping boxing going in Scotland, they are doing the boxers no favours matching them with Latvian road sweepers, Kevin McCauley, Willie Warburton etc etc.
When they eventually try to step up, what happens! Kris Carslaw and Gary Cornish are prime examples. Take a good look at Michael Roberts opponents to date and then consider his record on paper. And while on my high horse, which current Scottish boxer can actually punch with any authority? God rest the poor soul, but Mike Towell was the last, apart from Taylor.
Let's have some real learning fights and maybe lads like Butcher might do better when they step out their comfort zone.

you need to learn the history and understand the periods when Boxing was Tops and superior to different times when it wasn't/isn't...

Elky Clark
Alex Lafferty
Johnny Hill
Dan McGoldrick
Tommy Milligan
Benny Lynch
Jake Kilrain
Bert Gilroy
Jackie Paterson
Jim Brady
Ginger Stewart
Ken Shaw
Peter Keenan
Chic Calderwood
Cowboy McCormack
Walter McGowan
Ken Buchanan
Gary Jacobs
Scot Harrison
Alex Arthur
Ricky Burns
Josh Taylor

others I'm forgetting and literally dozens & dozens of TOP Scottish British Contenders that were the real deal, especially from strong Era's... Scotland has a GREAT Boxing heritage from such a small country and population!!!
