Rocky Fielding vs John Ryder

Post by handsofstone »

Good fight this for the vacant British Super Middleweight title, Ryder looked sharp against Etches but he's in with a big SMW in Fielding, Rocky had a few shaky moments in the Rebrasse fight, put down and hurt several times throughout but he came through it and getting a big win after the 1 round KO loss to Callum will have done wonders going into this one, Ryder being a blown up MW will maybe have Fielding like the winner already

Ryder's a tough, strong southpaw who can box well when on form and he can box to a plan as well as shown against Etches and Khomitsky, he can switch off though and I fancy Fielding to catch him and hurt him at some point to get the KO, he's just the bigger harder puncher for me

Rocky is a definite favourite, but can imagine a lot of ways The Gorilla can win.

Good Fight :box:

Not really overly excited for this to be honest. Fielding should be able to use his height and reach to keep Ryder at a safe distance then stop him in 6-8.

Really do fancy John Ryder in this one. Big doubts over Ricky's toughness, and I'm sure Ryder will have the cooler head in there, but let's wait and see, could go either way.

I had Ryder winning it 116-112, thought he closed the show well, had him winning the last 5 rounds although the 12th was close, I was disappointed in Fielding I thought he would've imposed his natural size and strength on Ryder but he never, he was bullied, he looks like a fish out of water in a clinch, partly he was so much taller than Ryder but you'd have thought he keep his chin down whenever John got close, he cant fight on the inside so I would have expect him to use the jab to keep Ryder at bay but he just looked crude at times and doesn't tie up well, Ryder finished strong and I think he hurt a tired Fielding late on

I didn't enjoy it, too messy, the last few rounds were good but everything before was awful

Think Rocky should stick at this level for a bit, try and keep the Lonsdale and maybe have a tilt at european later.

Trying to climb the rankings for an attempt at anything world level seems beyond him, but he seems popular and a well known name, so that is almost certainly where Hearn will guide him

Since losing to Callum Smith I don't think he's looked the same fighter.

Maybe move to Light Heavy for freshen up - as he won't beat any of the UK's best Super Middles.

Unless Hearn puts him in with Cox.
