just watched it, good fightSaadOffTheDeck wrote:You're doing fine, I'm just old and bitter. A lot of us never had a huge historical knowledge so you could show the more famous bouts. I could have got away with just showing McCallum vs Toney, Kalambay and Watson/Graham/Collins over there with the probability most wouldn't have seen itSaadOffTheDeck wrote:![]()
Great concept from davie, but ho-hum choices for the regulars here. I can watch McCallum dominate many fighters.
It's harder on here, we're dealing with a lot more posters who have seen more boxing, know more of the history. Then we have guys like myself, still learning.
Someone requests someone like McCallum, I've got the dilemma, if I choose his very best fights everyone's seen them, if I pick the more obscure ones....well they're obscure for a reason, either the fight is one sided and the opponent's guff or the fights as dull as poo.
I opted for him in his pre-160 days because I felt his middleweight career was better known.
I selected some of his better known 154lb fights and thought the Mannion fight was something a little more left field, perhaps not the best fight, but a one sided affair can showcase the better fighters skills and there's a good chance I'm showing something most won't have seen.
But I probably need top mix up the featured fighter a bit too and go for slightly more obscure lesser known (less watched) fighters. Suggestions like above are ideal.
Another point worth noting, is that this isn't always about just showing wars and the very best fights, it's about seeing something we haven't watched before, fights with a historical significance, for educational purposes, learning a bit more about greats of yesteryear.
Of course I'm aware that there are a few on here that don't need that as they've seen just about every bloody fight that's every had view-able footage. But for me and some others, there's plenty from Guys like Archie Moore and Mike McCallum I haven't seen, there's some of the little guys from the far east that I haven't watched in a single bout where as some guys have a wealth of knowledge. It's difficult to capture everyone
I had thought about showing a couple Dick Tiger fights next week. Not sure how many have seen a lot of his fights. Any thoughts?

Is there is a super welterweight that I favor to beat the great Tommy Hearns, that would be The Body Snatcher.
A great boxer that never had the credit that he deserves

You have to love the way he took Julian Jackson apart

I saw Mc Callum beat Michael Watson at the Albert Hall and he won easily. But what an absolute horror of a person. In 2000 he came to Scotland as part of Tyson's entourage. In the packed dressing room before Tyson's fight with Savarese one of the BBB of C officials asked Tyson if he'd autograph his programme for his son. Tyson looked at McCallum seeking his approval , Mc Callum shook his head , Tyson shrugged his shoulders and refused to sign. McCallum snatched the programme and walked off with it. When the official asked for it back he was told to 'F--- off you white pig ' . The programme was recovered some time later when McCallum left it lying on a seat.

I was ringside at this farce of a show

For next week we'll run with Lee vs LoCicero and see if I can find a couple other supplementaries.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:You misunderstand, he deserves to be recognized. This just isn't among the top thousands of fights I'd tell someone to watch. Clint Jackson/Frank Fletcher is an unknown epic. Have you seen caveman Lee/John LoCicero? That is clearly superior to Hagler/Hearns.davie wrote:Not a fan then?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Mannion deserves it.
I've got a bit of catching up to do with my own challenge, I'd been looking forward to Galaxy and Tiger as well. I'll get to them soon.
But keep any suggestions coming, as I'll always find time to put them up as long as someones watching them
**edit**
Struggling to find much else for either fighter, other than Lee's brief drubbing from the Marvelous one.
What I did find was Lee vs Fletcher, so i'll do;
Locicero vs Lee
Lee vs Fletcher
Fletcher vs Jackson
and see if I can find two more to make a kind of 5 degrees of seperation type challenge

Carlos palomino took a dive outside the ring against danza in taxi. The return didn't go so well.Ambling Alp II wrote:Whereas Hearns lost a decision to Danza on "Who's the Boss?"

Sadly enough, I remember that episode of Taxi as well. Perhaps we have underrating Palomino all of these years. ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

I just saw two of this great fighter fights in action and I gotta say, Wow! Mike McCallum is indeed a great boxer. A very talented and complete fighter in my book. He did everything well in the ring. Some say that the members of the Fab 4 of boxing ducked him, and I can see the reason. He was high risk, low pay. He came a little late to the party. By watching his style, I would not be surprised if he beats all the members of the Fab 4. He was as good as those 4 in the technical ability side.
If you ask me, did the Fab 4 ducked him? I can't say. The Fab 4 were looking for the mega million fights with each other. They had some businesses and scores to settle between them. The Body Snatcher was kind of upset that he didn't get a crack of those 4 guys. I would not be surprised if he beats anyone of them. THE JAMAICAN BOXER WAS THAT GOOD! YEAH MON!

In my view, to me, The great Mike McCallum is the best Jr middleweight/super welterweight boxer of all time. A top 100 ATG pound per pound boxer in my view. A great boxer. A complete boxer!

What an amazing war McCallum-Jackson is while it lasts. Looks like it got stopped a bit prematurely. But, credit to McCallum for weathering those bombs and returning fire. Both men looked in excellent form in that fight. Pity there was never a rematch.

Great fight while it lasted. MIke took The Hawk's best shots and prevailed. Maybe the stoppage was too soon. Maybe not. But a great win nonetheless.Smokin' Bert wrote:What an amazing war McCallum-Jackson is while it lasts. Looks like it got stopped a bit prematurely. Julian Jackson is the best knockout artist that I have seen in my lifetime. He had brutal power in both fists. He was an animal.

If Mike McCallum did that to Julian Jackson, who did that to Terry Norris, Mike McCallum would destroy Terry Norris as well because Norris didn't have a great chin and McCallum would wear him down with great body shots before knocking him out.elmersalsa wrote:Great fight while it lasted. You got that right. Terry Norris wasn't in the great Mike McCallum's class.scorpio83 wrote:If Mike McCallum did that to Julian Jackson, who did that to Terry Norris, Mike McCallum would destroy Terry Norris as well because Norris didn't have a great chin and McCallum would wear him down with great body shots before knocking him out.elmersalsa wrote:Great fight while it lasted.
