Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
It's just been announced.
I think he could well be an exciting pro. Lots of good potential fights around middle/super middle.

Good luck to him. Don't think they'll put him in with anyone with a pulse for a good while. He's marketable and not as great as he thinks he is in my opinion.

Good prospect. Good armature career. Will do well as a pro I think.

Same here and i cant believe he stopped callum smith winning the ABA's. I thought he might of done well in the olympics but he was too slow, cant see him doin much as a pro tbhBoxing Prospect wrote:Going to sound harsh but when ever I've seen him in the amateurs he's always looked a bit....... bleh.... maybe just me not watching a lot of amateur stuff but...hey ho never been impressed by what I have seen
Re: Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
Interesting that several people concur with my thoughts- , that he has a tendency to overrate himself slightly.
Though saying that he is 2013 World Championships Bronze medalist, 2014 Commonwealth Gold medalist, has fought for the British Lionhearts in the WSB, and of course went to the Olympics....but should he have done more?!
It will be interesting what weight he fights at, whether it be Super Middle, Middle, or perhaps Light Middle.

Starting at lmw isn't he?
Re: Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
Yea i think he'll do well as long as they keep away from southpaws with good foot work.samwbr wrote:Starting at lmw isn't he?

Great...his Twitter and Facebook will become more Matchroom spambotty, and the love in with Hearn will be even more like something from Brokeback Mountain.
Good luck to him...would have been bigger news in 2013, but I think the pros could suit him. At best he will be very good, and worst, he will be a fun fighter to watch in a couple of years.

Re: Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
Yeah he's starting at 154. I think Josh Kelly is also turning over at light-middle and from what I've seen Fowler looks quite a bit bigger than him so I'd expect his size to be an advantage for him down at that weight. He gets a bit of stick, some for his boxing and some for the stuff he says, but as someone else pointed out he's had a successful amateur career so there's obviously talent there. Looks like he can punch a bit as well. And as we all know people have gone on to achieve a lot as pros who have achieved a lot less than Fowler in the ams so I wouldn't read too much into him struggling in the Olympics.

Re: Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
Fowler suffered because he dropped in ranking due to him being injury prone and prone to cuts. Zhanibek Alimkhanuly was a class act, and was fleeced in the Quarters. He won't be fighting anyone that good for a long time.ElJefe wrote:Yeah he's starting at 154. Alimkhanuly recently turned pro himself,i wonder if fowlers pro debut opponent will be as testing (on paper) as his was...

Re: Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
Watched him a few times as an amateur. Pretty tidy and solid as you'd expect. Not sure how he'll do as a pro. His fellow Scouser Stalker was also a top amateur and Commonwealth gold medal winner and he's struggled as a pro. I know that's got no bearing on how Anthony will do but I'm just brain farting
Re: Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
Didn't he barely scrape into the Olympics this other year and then one and done?

That is a cracking find mate....he must be injured as has been six months. It's interesting that none of the British male olympians have turned over with Warren so far. 4 have moved over so far, all with Matchroom. None of the 2012 bunch turned over with him either.

I can't see him doin much. He talks a good fight like . Hope he does well

He went back to the amateurs and then suffered an injury, which is making him miss the Asian championships later this monththepocketrocket wrote:That is a cracking find mate....he must be injured as has been six months. There is one to watchchiggsy wrote:thepocketrocket wrote:

He's talking a big game saying he's going to be a British champion in 18 months time.
If he is challenging for the British title in that short amount of time, then the BBBoC must be desperate to put the British belt on anyone.
Will he do well, I hope so and I hope he does become a world champion in the future. But I also hope this 18 month goal of winning the British title falls flat quickly.

Surprised he isn't with Joe Gallagher. If Hearn was signing fighters based on talent, I'd be surprised if he touched Fowler, from what I've seen he's one of the worst GB has in terms of being a stand out quality fighter. I don't wanna sound disrespectful because I'm behind him and hope he becomes a pro standout.
Re: Anthony Fowler - turned pro with Matchroom
Tony Sims in the south, Penfold in the north seems to be the Hearn system.TheGingerBomber wrote:Surprised he isn't with Joe Gallagher.
