cos kessler isn't even a household name in his own home. he's one of the few world champs out there that i haven't seen fight. :-?

He's also the best SMW besides Calzaghe, and has the best chance to beat Calzaghe.

Beyer isn't exactly a bigtime champ either outside of Germany.

Actually I think it says more about Sky and ITV.

Kessler is far from a proven commodity, I just got hold of a copy of his fight with Lucas, I'll give you an opinion once I've seen it.

Calzaghe needs to fight Kessler if he wants to be taken seriously as super-middlweight champ (outside Cardiff and Liverpool, that is).
He would lose, of course, but at least he would have tried to fight the best - for once.

I've just watched the Kessler/Lucas fight.
My first look at Kessler and he looks good and Strong, I think he take's a while to get his punches off though Calzaghe's hand speed could be a deciding factor again.
If Calzaghe ducks this guy i would be dissapointed he should really be in fighting him and cleaning up the division!

Don't think that many people in America share your view, most American fight writers seem to regard Calzaghe as the main man, although most recognise that a fight against Kessler is the most important fight at 168.

No way on achievement does Kessler outstrip Calzaghe, his resume is very thin, you may think he would beat Calzaghe, but that's merely opinion, whereas his weak body of work is fact.

I wouldn't go claiming Joe has a very strong body of work. He's got a few goodies here and there, but with 41 fights and a belt for almost a decade is hardly what Joe's resume should resemble. He started the steps he needs to take by taking out Lacy, he put in a weak offer with Beyer, and he hasn't even mentioned Kessler. Why put in a career's worth of work only to abandon it so close to finishing what you started.

I think Kessler is the man Calzaghe needs to beat, I too have not seen much more than highlights of a few of his fights so cannot give any sort of opinion, but he seemed keen to fight the winner of Calzaghe and lacy before they fought....I get the impression he meant it also :TU:

The guy is young and unbeaten, holds a good belt and is keen....if Joe never fights him then there will always be doubts as to Calzaghe greatness :-?

None of the up and coming s-middle prospects are looking special and Beyer means nothing...sort out Kessler then have your celebrity fights to get a good pension :TU:

This is bullshit Kessler has not proved a thing, He beat Mundine ( no big deal) and Lucas who was flogged by Green 2 years ago in 5 rounds.
Beating Mundine is a big deal in my book. And beating him soundly with a bad back in Australia even more so. Besides, Kessler totally anilihated the normally durable Manny Siaca in 8; and the Lucas shootout also remains a nice win. Lucas-Green was pretty competitive until a bodypunch caused one of Lucas' ribs to crack. Kessler-Lucas was never competitive, not for a minute.

The guy is seriously gifted and pretty complete, and fights a style that Calzaghe does NOT like.

So are tube-tops and bobby-socks.

The only reason Calzaghe should face Kessler is if he intends to stay at 168, which if he does then Kessler is the biggest fight he has, but I suspect he is going to move up in weight. I'd like to see Calzaghe and Kessler though.

Kessler didn't beat him so soundly, though. He was troubled by Mundine's tricky defense and the shutout score was way out. now even the aussie commentators had kessler winning, but mundine made it hard for him all the way

Kessler has looked very sharp against everyone else, however. Especially the former lightweight Dingaan Thobela

I will be disappointed if Calzaghe-Kessler isn't made. but does anyone think the promoters are going to listen to a bunch of hardcore fans / writers / message boarders? are they fkuc. the most immediately lucrative, shallow bout was the one first mentioned - Jones. It's a fornicating shortsighted system that doesn't see the world "farce" coming round the corner.

even Hatton's saying come on Joe, let's beat them americans. there's an air of ignorance toward the s/m division, where most of the elite are europeans

I actually think that sense can prevail. showtime would have to pull the thumb out of their arse however. Showtime only wanted Jones as part of a package of world title fights involving Hatton vs TBA, Woods vs Jones etc etc. that didn't happen as the Hatton element is missing. so it's not happening imo.

on the other hand, there was talk of showcasing Kessler vs fcuking Joppy. why not put him in a superfight, vs Calzaghe, instead?

Siaca beat Mundine it is no big deal, Mundine was intimidated and hardly threw any punches, When Mundine did attack Kessler looked crap he couldn't handle someone actually fighting back.

i give Kessler credit for beating a tricky opponent in adverse conditions (little sparring, back injury, opponent's backyard). but yes, Kessler did look a bit flustered at times against an opponent with a less orthodox style. and he wasn't so accurate trying to nail mundine on the ropes

Kessler is another hyped fighter that may be problematic, but has never been in with a quality fighter like Joe, it is just LAcy all over again. Anyone who doesn't think Joe is the top man at SM needs their head checking, so what good does a fight against Kessler get Joe, there is more money and prestige for him to fight at Light Heavy, or if he stays at SM less risk and more money to fight Beyer (who will duck him anyway), Kessler wants to fight Joe, but there is no reason for Joe to fight Kessler.

JC has made a massive impression, anyone hear the praise that Mayweather Jr heaped on him - "Joe Calzaghe is the truth", i've seen it quoted.

to the point - a lot of ppl want to fight him now. but a lot of these guys have big egos and will be very tough negotiators - Jones & Tarver particularly.

other guys will be like a moth to a lightbulb - i'm thinking Glen Johnson, whose goal is not to be a legend but to be a million $ fighter (check his website out if it's still there). there's also Woodsy, who will give JC the fight of his life, but there's the whole SN/FA thing.

imo Johnson would skip his Woods 3 fight in a heartbeat to fight JC in a money fight. he'd also be suited to JC stylistically - relatively



we'll have to see what kind of offer Kessler would accept. I doubt he'd take less money and come to the UK. when negotiating with Lacy, Kessler wanted most of the money to come to America, or home advantage to concede most of the dough to Lacy. (Lacy and his gobshite promoter then pretended that MK priced himself out...)anyone think Calzaghe will go to Denmark for good money? Base don his post Lacy comments, he wants nothing but good money now, so he's not likely to take a cut for the privelige of fighting Kessler over here

Mundine is a better figher than every single of the hand-selected opponents Calzaghe has clobbered in his entire career. Plus Kessler fought him abroad.
