Good.
Fury was completely undeserving of a title shot anyhow. Maybe now negotiations for a unification match with WBC champion Deontay Wilder can begin. That's the fight that needs to be made. If not, then there's also a fight with the winner of next week's Joshua-Klitschko fight that could be made as well.

I read on FightNews that they are trying to find a substitute opponent, so the show will likely go on as scheduled, but a different opponent for Parker.

I had a feeling he'd pull out. He didn't seem to want it for some reason.
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury is OFF!
Damnit. This just cut the odds of my accumulator in half. Parker was a gift at -150. F U Hughie.
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury is OFF!
According to promoters Duco Events he's got a broken moral compass.dickbelden wrote:what is hughie fury's injury ?
Fact is he's scared shitless.
If he thought he could win he'd be there.

Hoping for Miller, Rivas, or Jun Long Zhang then?
Or Povetkin, but that's probably to risky.

With Tyson's history now this from Hughie, the Fury camp arnt doing themselves any favors.
A shame this has happened, it was a good match up imo

Povetkin must get by the PEDvetkin test first.asdfjkl wrote:Hoping for Miller, Rivas, or Jun Long Zhang then?

Re: Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury is OFF!
Parker's promoters, Duco Events, fired a shot at the Fury camp for pulling out at such late notice.
"I spoke to the WBO president a minute ago he said the Furys are claiming to have an injury and therefore we can fight whoever we want when we want as a voluntary defence out of the top 15," Duco co-owner David Higgins said.
Asked about the nature of Fury's injury, Higgins said: "I know exactly what it is; their moral compass has broken in half - a nasty fracture of the moral compass. It's not just Hughie, the whole camp has".
Higgins is yet to speak to anyone from the Fury camp.
"I don't think I'll bother."
"The WBO clearly gave us permission to take a voluntary defence and that's what we are going to do," Higgins said. "The wranglings of the Furys have cost us a lot of time and money so we're going to take a voluntary. If the Furys provide a medical certificate that is sound then I'll apologise for being suspicious, but that doesn't change that fact it's been very difficult and we would not be in a hurry to work with them again."

If there's a genuine injury, then it happens in sport, if it's a bottle job, then massively disappointing so close to a fight for parker
Re: Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury is OFF!
I'm surprised no one has suggested a failed drug test.

Re: Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury is OFF!
I'm thinking it could be Christian Hammer is is highly ranked with wins over Teper than he won the eliminator over Price. He is training for an upcoming fight so maybe him? Miller is another but he can't seem to get any big fights. Zhang not out of the questionas I believe he owns the WBO Asian Pacific or Oriental title so he is in the top 15. Oscar Rivas I think is done. He has had retina issues for a few years & can't get licenced in the big states in the US so I'm not sure if he can get one in NZLD.asdfjkl wrote:Hoping for Miller, Rivas, or Jun Long Zhang then?

Now I'm thinking about it, I think Ortiz gladly takes the fight.joe strong wrote:I'm thinking it could be Christian Hammer is is highly ranked with wins over Teper than he won the eliminator over Price. This is the ranking:
1. Hughie Fury
2. Christian Hammer
3. Jarrell Miller
4. Andy Ruiz
5. Kubrat Pulev
6. Dominic Breazeale
7. Dillian Whyte
8. Tom Schwarz
9. Andriy Rudenko
10. Luis Ortiz
11. Andrey Fedosov
12. Agit Kabayel
13. Kyotaro Fujimoto
14. Razvan Cojanu
15. Zhilei Zhang
Jun Long Zhang and Rivas aren't even ranked I see...
I forgot about Tom Schwarz, I'm not impressed about Kabayel, or Cojanu or Zhilei Zhang, the rest has already lost at least one match.
I am surprised about Senad Gashi at this moment, 15 fights, 15KO's, only once past the 2nd round, those are AJ numbers, but the guy is only just over 6ft?! I know his opponents aren't top contenders, but only once past the 2nd round after 15 matches?!

Re: Joseph Parker vs. Hughie Fury is OFF!
Was a little bit disappointed when I heard the fight was off but apparently the WBO have allowed Parker to fight someone new on the same date, same venue in a voluntary defence as long as who ever he fights in ranked by them.
Out of their top 15, I'd like to see a fight between Parker and Schwarz, 19-0 and only 22 years old, held both the WBC and the WBO youth world heavyweight titles and he doesn't have a fight lined up. but given the time scale I don't think it would happen.
The best bet is to arrange a fight with one of the top 15 who had a fight already lined up within a similar timeframe and pay off whatever fee is needed to get a ranked contender. So going by who had fights lined up the most likely defence is going to be against any of:
* Kyotaro Fujimoto (16-1 Current OPBF and former Japanese champion) who has a fight lined up on the 8th of may
* Zhilei Zhang (14-0 current WBO oriental title holder) who's fighting on the 29th of April.
* Christian Hammer (21-4 current WBO European champion) who fights on the 19th of May
* Kubrat Pulev (current WBA intercontinental champion) who fights on the 28th of April.
Other than Dillian whyte who's fighting on the 3rd of June, these are the ranked boxers who have been in training for a fight, the rest of the top 15 would be taking the fight on really short notice.
