Jai Opetaia
Exciting southpaw prospect Jai Opetaia is on the undercard of Akkawy vs Hope on October 30th. Opponent as yet unnamed.
Jai is 5-0 with two KOs, and at only 21, is being bought along slowly.

Jai moved to 6-0 in beating Uria Afamasaga TKO2 on the Geale vs Quinlan undercard.
Re: Jai Opetaia
Uria is about 40 year old but he can really fight. Is hard and can punch so a pretty good win for Jai. Looks a real good prospect after a very good amateur background.Like a Boss wrote:Jai moved to 6-0 in beating Uria Afamasaga TKO2 on the Geale vs Quinlan undercard.

Jai has 2 fights in the pipeline :
9th December - vs Peter Brennan 11-25-4
23rd December - vs Isileli Fa 2-6
Only 2 weeks between fights, but I suspect he could beat them both on the same night.

That's a terrible fight for someone who went to the Olympics Brennen fought in Wagga about 3 years ago he was very ordinary.

In some cases I don't doubt that's the case.coneye wrote:Sometimes i wonder if these , easy nights at the office are because , the trainer/managers , are just scared there boy can't step up .
Jai is only 21 though and he looked very green in his early fights. For a start his jab was almost non-existent.
Hopefully in 2017, with by then 8 fights under his belt, Jai will start getting matched against better opposition.

You could be right some fighter's take longer then other to develop into professional fighter's even when they have had good amateur career's Jai career could really take off in the next year or two
Re: Jai Opetaia
I hope Jai persists with his career....
With young Justis Huni winning the youth championship and eyeing off the Tokyo Olympics....
We well could be on the path for a good era of HW boxing in Australia

Jai Opetai made it 10 from 10 when he stopped Kyle Brumby 5-13-3 in round 2 in Sydney last night.

Time to step up a tad
Re: Jai Opetaia
You'd think if he has ambitions at a serious career he'd have to consider getting a bit of a wiggle on soon. Not just for his self development, but also for his public profile which could begin to stagnate. Im sure in a few years time he would want to be headlining some events, not padding out others undercards.ClivePatrickLyons wrote:Like a Boss wrote:Jai Opetai made it 10 from 10 when he stopped Kyle Brumby 5-13-3 in round 2 in Sydney last night.

There's nothing for him here. He'd be better off going to America and trying his luck.

Re: Jai Opetaia
Jai is penciled in to meet Daniel Amman in Newcastle on 15th July. If the fight eventuates, it may give us some indication of Jai's ability to progress.
But Daniel whom has a good past record, has not fought over distance in the past 3 years, sticking to 3 round tournaments as well as thrashing in what was a disgrace to match-making, that poor bloke who Quade Cooper also beat up on the Green/Mundine card.

Re: Jai Opetaia
Starting to think this bout cant come fast enough, even with Ammann nearly two and a half years out of the game. Jai fought again last night against an opponent with a winning percentage under 30%. The only positive i can take is that he has kept himself relatively busy.... but I cant help but see an all too familiar pattern in yet another Australian fighter... i understand its early days yet... but still...Beltane wrote:Jai is penciled in to meet Daniel Amman in Newcastle on 15th July. There was another strange one from last night.... a fella who had one loss in his first 10 bouts.... and then racked up a total of 4 wins in his next 41 bouts
That McInnes kid also debuted against Mark Flanagan.... beyond disgraceful... in circumstances such as these the sanctioning commission and the kid's trainer should be held legally responsible for his health and well being....
