World boxing history challenge week 15 - The Galaxy Twins
World boxing history challenge week 15 - The Galaxy Twins
Might do a 2 parter and cover his brother next week - ***Edit - I'll just shoehorn him into this thread instead***
But for week 15 we will have a look at the better known Khaosai. Criticised for lack of solid competition, he boasted an impressive looking resume at first glance. I've done a little googling and these bouts come as some of the more recommended
Khaosai Galaxy Vs Ellyas Pical - 1987, 15 rounder. Should have been a unification for Picals IBF belt. Would be interested to hear why it was not

One of the top 100 ATG pound per pound best!
Re: World boxing history challenge week 15 - Khaosai Galaxy
Think I mentioned this one I'll catch up with these as I think it's a good idea.
Anyway think it's better to have it as a Galaxy twins thread. With the history of them being the first twins to hold world titles simultaneously. Especially in an era where it was harder to win a world title.
Looking at Khaokors resume only a couple of fights that look of any note. Will certainly check out his win over wilfredo vasquez.

Khaokor vs Wilfredo Vasquez
A historic victory, not only because of the level of opponent but it made history as the first time twins ever held world titles

It's now your job to decide next weeks challenge....you've left me short
Re: World boxing history challenge week 15 - Khaosai Galaxy
Only ever watched Mike McCallum v Watson which I thought was a masterclass and McCallums resume looks DEEP. So thats a shout from me.davie wrote:Advice taken, thread renamed and Khaokor fights added.Naandrew wrote:Think I mentioned this one I'll catch up with these as I think it's a good idea.

I've seen a few McCallums fights a couple years ago, I was the same as yourself, had hardly heard of him, then looked at his record and wondered why the hell I'd never seen any of himNaandrew wrote:Only ever watched Mike McCallum v Watson which I thought was a masterclass and McCallums resume looks DEEP. I've only really looked at his middleweight career, against Kalambay, Toney and the British fighters he faced
Many rank him highest at 154lbs so I might make that the feature of the thread, despite there perhaps not being the same quality of opposition

How did you score it? Some says it's a controversial decision. Vazquez said he was robbed.Counter-puncher wrote:Galaxy-Vazquez is a favourite of mine. Brutal left handed body punching from the Thai
Only seen it in bits and looks a very tense tactical fight.

I had Galaxy winning
Re: World boxing history challenge week 15 - The Galaxy Twins
Wow, I'll have to grab this one.
During this period Vazquez was in some astonishing battles - the Muguruma punchfest draw, Lora (which I felt he was slightly unlucky to lose) & Avelar which was like Katsidis v Earl I if it came 20 years early - and I can't believe I overlooked one.
Was the first with Raul Perez any good, do you know?

Re: World boxing history challenge week 15 - The Galaxy Twins
just watched it. Glad you recommended this superb battle. Galaxy's left hand is wonderful, the way he doubles up the uppercut or body shot with the straight left.Counter-puncher wrote:Galaxy-Vazquez is a favourite of mine. Brutal left handed body punching from the Thai
Vazquez, perhaps unfairly, is known as a bit of a plodder. But in his prime he was a very solid, capable and fierce battler. From the Lora through to the second Raul Perez contest. Able to tag super talents Lora and Galaxy numerous times. People really only remember him as a 38 yo in his third weight class landing few significant shots on Naz.
My copy kept having tape roll and blackouts so I couldn't score it. I got the impression Vazquez overcame early difficulty, to solve his man by the end. He ate many lefts early, getting backed up, but didn't panic. He found a good, ominously close range, and has a sneaky left hook lead. Did he win enough rounds in between, I cannot judge. Outstanding body punching by both men. Numerous changes if momentum. In an otherwise great fight, the final round was disappointing, with Galaxy eager to run.
Was there a knockdown early? What was the ref up to? Very indecisive.
I wonder if in Thailand this fight is regarded as something of a classic.

scorecards thread, myself and scar quite close but many rounds different to seamus IIRC. Fitting for a fight with about 6 or 7 close rounds
