Zolani Tete

Post by ozzy1875 »

News just released, Zolani Tete upgraded to WBO world bantamweight champion after his win at the weekend and Marlon Tapales failed to make weight and was stripped of the full title.

Never a fan when stuff like this happens but Tete is genuine world class, hope he can quickly unify the division.

Can't really complain about the situation. Was an eliminator between the #1 & #2 the number two won. The bout became an interim on the day the champion was stripped for failing weight, and the original challenger failed to win

Ryan Burnett going after Lee Haskins IBF Title.
Surprised W@rren didn't offer Haskins a place on his BT Cards and get a WBO/IBF Unification fight built.
No doubt if Ryan Burnett wins Hearn will build toward a Burnett/McDonnell "unification" for the IBF and WBA 'Regular'.

That leaves Shinsuke Yamanaka (WBC) and Zhanat Zhakiyanov (WBA 'Super') as unification fights for Tete.
Zhanat Zhakiyanov is promoted by Hatton but neither man really has a name in the UK.

Stuart Hall is still well ranked by the WBC and IBF, maybe get him on a BT show for a fight with Tete...

I remember watching Tete school Paul Butler a couple of years ago and expecting him to really push on and unify a division (or two). Maybe part of the problem with him is that he's just too good, and top level fighters just don't want to know?

He flattered to deceive at the weekend though, it was a performance that would make Rigo look like Barrera

Tete quality operator :TU:

Was a great performance from him the other week, masterful, albeit vs limited opposition

I usually disparage these sort of situations, but find myself pleased for Tete as I feel he deserves it. Hopefully he'll get some good fights now.

McDonnell Butler is all but done, September the date at the ECHO.

I wouldn't be shocked if Haskins turns over Burnett, Sky rave over him but I've really not been impressed in his recent fights. Zhakiyanov was offered good money to box Paul Butler not sure what happened there.

Be interesting to see his next move for sure, like Tete, a real talent.
