Chavez Jr. Already Down To 169.5lbs

Post by verlichte »

"Photo: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Already Down To 169.5-Pounds"
As BS.com previously reported, former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is already down to 169.5-pounds, as of Wednesday afternoon, for his upcoming grudge fight with Mexican rival Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

There is a catch-weight in place of 164.5-pounds and Chavez Jr. appears to be well on his way to making the contracted limit. Chavez Jr has not fought below the super middleweight limit of 168 since 2012, when the boxer was competing as the WBC middleweight champion.

If the fight was at 168 Chavez Jr. would be on target. 164 is what Jr. should weigh on the 5th of May. It's not looking good for Jr.

He has a full week to lose 5 pounds, that shouldn't be difficult at all unless they've already dug into his water too much.

He looks like a POW - I would be surprised if this fight doesn't get shelved last minute on safety grounds

Wow, he looks terrible. Surely he's gonna have to such it up and lose a couple of million, those last five pounds will ruin him

This amount of money involved will outweigh any safety concerns. Besides, if he has too much trouble, Jr can just come heavy and pay a fine.

I don't think he looks that bad really. If this was the first time I had ever seen him, I'd say he looks like a regular dude. But when comparing him to his regularly fat face, there is a stark difference. We'll see if he is affected come fight time.

The name the game is rehydration. The difference between winning and losing when all the margins are so close. Canelo is awesome in this department. This is not cheating, more of a science/talent.

There's other stuff too....the known and the unknown.
It was mainly Carl Froch's phenomenal stamina that helped him turn round fights against more skillful fighters like Taylor and Groves. Rocky's entire career was built around his miraculous stamina. A bit like middle distance running when its the one who slows the least that wins.

I remember reading about Ali taking tablets to dehydrate himself to make a respectable weight. Nowadays everyone knows the dangers of a dehydrated body (brain).

Just hope its not a close decision or we'll be seeing a rematch later this year.

Sorry, but the most heavy he has ever been going into a fight is 172.5, in his last fight he was 168.
It's not like it's completely nuts, the weightloss he had...

Losing 5 pounds in 8 days should leave JC Jr pretty weakened by the loss. He's not looking too good in that picture to begin with...

You all have no idea about cutting weight because if you did, you'd realize how great it is that he's already below 170. JR has gradually cut this weight down the right way each week and making this weight is going to be no problem at all for him. In fact, the only thing that could be a negative is how he chooses to eat post weigh in. Making the weight is not going to be a problem in the least. This kid is fired up and ready to go. I can't wait for this one.

Boxers lose from 3-6 pounds of water weight in a typical training day. If the fight were tomorrow, he could make the weight if he's currently at 169.5.
