Johnathon Banks liability

Post by Tarkus »

I believe Klitscko loss to Fury was mostly down to wrong tactics. Emanuel Stewart jab and grab style that work so well against all other opponents would not work against a defensive technical who was bigger then Wlad. Klitschko team did not understand that and as a result was outboxed and beaten. Immediately after the fight though realization came to Klitschko and he was planning to be more aggressive in the rematch. He starting work on combination punching, body work, etc. However rematch never happened. And now Banks thinks Wlad still has to do what they were planning for Fury. That is to let his hands go. Just because Joshua is another young and hungry fighter. Man doesnt seem to understand that styles make fights not age and hunger. You cant do the same thing against offensive minded power puncher as against defensive technician. Joshua is the opponent where Klitshcko needs to go right back to jab and grab approach. If he opens up and lets his hands go there is a good chance he will get KOed early. I wonder if inexperienced and not very smart corner might cost Klitschko another loss.

Agreed mate, I remember halfway through the fight when JB knew his man was taking a pasting shut up and let Vitali give instructions which shows Wlad doesn't respect JB's advice !

I am counting on that actually. Better to not receive any advice then bad advice.

Too be fair to JB, he didn't ask for it. He was part of the team, and after Mannys death, Wlad asked him to be the main guy. I think Wlad & Vitali more than know what's needed between them.

And of course is this only just mind games. Joshua has walked through everyone, are they playing with him suggesting that Vlad will be standing in front of him all guns blazing? Instead of the tried and tested method...

I don't know why Wlad chose him. He's clearly not a great thinker, imo.

Mmmm , So you have a big lumbering muscle bound guy , who has had a whole heap of handpicked opponents and ko'ed them , who then meets a 50-50 opponent (whitye )and gets hit with a good shot and his legs go rubbery ,, and he's fighting a guy who has a big left hook and is very experienced ... So what do you tell the experienced guy to do , its simple , bang him put it on his chin and see what happens . Sometimes you can get too technical and over think a fight , and forget its all about putting one on the chin .

Now why did Fury box the way he did , simple he did'nt want to get hit clean , but Aj is'nt Fury and does'nt move the same ,,, Its a simple fight for me Vlad will go forward use his jab to set the rythym and drop the bomb , but when he can't he will do what he does best Hold .. .. Sometimes you give a puncher too much respect ,you move away, and they find there distance, and catch you on the end of a big one .. He needs to move in and close it down , simple tactics , jab , bomb , hold , .. This will not be a fancy fight both will be going for the ko ,, but Vlad will be smarter , he will tie him up make him breath heavy and go for a ko later rnds .

Good post, I think you hear a lot of boxing trainers over complicate things to much and like to make out they are excellent tacticians

Continuity. When manny passed, banks had been around the camp before and wlad trusted him.

Yes I believe he wanted the Manny routine to continue. Banks is also an excellent mits coach I think. He can help him get in shape. But when it comes to understanding opponent and building the strategy he seems clueless.

This may sound stupid, but Jason Gavern and Gary Cornish both showed a way of getting AJ out of rhythm. Gavern didnt let AJ get in his range (as mentioned above) and held on for dear life, until it got waved off. Cornish beat AJ to the jab for the first 60 seconds, until he got caught and the fight was inevitably over there and then.

I'm not saying Gavern and Cornish could beat AJ, because they both got knocked out fairly easily, but Klitschko is levels and levels above those guys and the jab and clinch are what he does best.

Just to reiterate my point is that the game plan I believe Klitshko had aligned for Fury rematch will not work against Joshua because of vastly different styles. I am not confident that K team understands that, particularly the head coach.

Yes anything can happen in fight but you still need a correct game plan going into a fight. That was well demonstrated during Klit v Fury. Where the contender knew exactly what he was doing and the champion looked like a clueless novice.

Make no mistake, his tactics will be jab and grab like all ways, leopards don't change their spots and it works well.

Yes you can say continuity might be one reason, and strategy aspect is questionable

It's worth remembering nobody knew Fury could do what he did, before the fight. He should have been coaching him to adapt during the fight, but nobody was ready for Fury to do what he did. We sure as shit didn't see it coming on this forum.

Seen recent interview with banks
He gets too much stick imo
He was pressing wlad to finish AJ off in 6-7-8 round
But wlad didn't
He gave all the right advice vs fury but wlad didn't follow

He said he spoke to wlad 1 day after the fight and had same conversation that if he didn't blow out AJ after his knockdown , AJ would comeback to be his worst nightmare

I remember steward losses first fight with wladimir
He also pushed wlad to stop ibragimov but again wlad was cautious
