How do you nullify Klitschko's jab?

Post by kbackup408 »

Been watching footage of Wlad a lot lately and that jab is an absolute pistol, how do you think AJ deals with the jab and not forgetting Wlads strong left hook ?

As the younger man he should be quicker,so be first with his own jab and double it up i'd say :maybe:

Wlads straight right is very long too. He rotates much more than AJ does when he throws his straight right.

Circular movement (as Fury showed us) is the key. Move around Wlad, it makes him uncomfortable and nervy - and when he's feeling exposed or insecure he won't let his right hand go.

His left jab is impressive, but it's the key that sets up his big straight right and we've seen many a man fall from it.

Agree with that. Klitschko has never been one to take a chance and is very calculating. He'll only throw - I think based on age, nerves and generally his style - when he is absolutely sure.

That said, part of the fun of the fight is does AJ have the ability to keep moving in a non-linear manner? We can only find out. Not seen anything so far to suggest he can.

Tyson Fury showed the way, but Joshua is not that type of fighter.

Then again, if Wladimir really is as old has be looked in his last 2 fights, it won't matter if Joshua can move like Fury or not.

Joshua's movement is nowhere near as fluid as Fury's though. He also doesn't have that big reach advantage Tyson possessed.

But his handspeed is probably quicker. Which if AJ can get in and out quick enough he will have success. AJ does possess a decent counter punch too.

Was the Jennings performance THAT bad??? I cannot remember much comments about the Jennings fight, post fight or in the run up to the Fury fight. I just thought he played it safe.

Was a poor, poor showing from Klitschko, especially given how Ortiz dealt with him

You can nullify Klitschko completely, Fury showed how to do that

But Joshua ain't Fury and he'll have to come up with his own way

Circling round him as mentioned above is a way to shut his jab down

But WK isn't phased by Josh it all it seems, Fury was in his head and WK was very much beaten before fight night, none of this is the case with this fight though so best thing AJ can do is be first and keep moving and striking with precision, make WK think twice about jabbing and coming in

He showed a way, one that I think Joshua has no chance of replicating, but there will be others ways to beat it. I don't think Joshua has yet shown anything that will though.

This. Fury showed one way of beating him, but there were two previous blueprints that are there to be followed.

Of all his losses, the one Fury dealt Wlad was the least emphatic.

Joshua shouldn't look at Fury as to how to beat him, he should look at Brewster or Sanders. Obviously I don't mean start switching to southpaw ala Sanders  but certainly jump all over him early doors. Be very, very aggressive and let the hands go. Brewster just outlasted him when it started getting lively. Maybe Joshua will come out firing, trade bombs and outlast him? Watching his amateur career, I don't think Joshua will be lacking in fighting spirit at all.

Brewster was shelled up in that fight and took a pummeling until aggressive Wlad gassed.

A classic mike tyson attack which Joshua has the right style and physique to adopt. Tuck up Move in quick, duck , bob and weave in unleashing those quick hand combinations on the inside. Joshua may be inexperienced and flawed but he is too big and strong for klitschko to lean on and hug.

Maybe he won't be able to lean on Joshua, but you don't have to be massively strong to grab on to someone, and it's a lot of effort to get someone off you even if you're massively strong. If Joshua gets close, Klitschko will be able to grab him, just like he's grabbed everyone else.

Ya, you don't have to be especially powerful to clinch and thus impair someone's ability to punch. Is AJ going to judo throw Wlad off or something? AJ doesn't have to lay back and do nothing if Wlad grabs, but it's not as easy as 'you're big and strong, so he won't be able to hold'.

The bigger problem for Wlad is facing someone who doesn't need to work their way in.

Joshua has the right physique and style to replicate Mike Tyson? AJ is half a foot taller with 11" extra reach and is 25+ lbs heavier. Not to mention his relatively limited head and foot movement and the fact that he tends to throw straight shots rather than hooks and uppercuts. He fights nothing like Mike Tyson.

Yeah, as the Indongo fight vs BUrns showed, tall guys who have never fought like Joe Frazier don't tend to morph into him suddenly

I don't think it was that bad..

Jennings won a few rounds before Ortiz caught him.. He's not a poor fighter.

Joshua will nullify Wlad's jab by, err, Wlad not throwing it

Strange that some are suggesting that Joshua won't be able to do what Fury did because Fury as we all know is this multi-faceted riddle, or at least turned into one when he beat the old statue.

They're right though in a way, Joshua won't need to stare at Wlad for 12 rounds when he can just walk through him instead.

The left hook could prove so dangerous. Watching back the Whyte fight, AJ was so so slow getting his right hand up after throwing. Danger zone

Wlad will throw no left hook. He's barely thrown it since his 'rehabilitation'. Kubrat 'Face in the sky' Pulev, right. that's it.

Well last time I checked, Joshua wasnt 6"9, he didnt have an 85 inch reach, he didnt switch between the Orthodox and Southpaw stance and he also doesnt move particularlily fluidly for a guy of his size unlike Fury.

Fury might be considered to have clumsy footwork but he is pretty light on his feet for a guy as big as he is

The biggest problems Wlad had in that fight was Fury's constant movement and Fury's length.

I believe Joshua will win but I dont see him doing it in the fashion Fury did. I see him being offensively minded against Klitschko rather than defensively minded like Fury predominantly was.

I think Joshua will force Klitschko to throw and subsequently take him out within 5 as Wlad basically has a panic attack and falls apart.
