Wembley conversation !

Post by dalcumly »

Four friends get tickets for the Joshua fight. It's about 9.30 and they have a conversation.
Spectator A : whose that big black guy standing at the ringside.
Spectator B : that's Deontay Wilder.
Spectator A : whose that.
Spectator B : the world heavyweight champion.
Spectator A : what ?
Spectator C : no, that's not right, Tyson Fury's the heavyweight champion.
Spectator A : What ? I thought we've just paid £150 to see Joshua defend his world heavyweight title. I don't get it.!!
Spectator D : your all talking nonsense that guy from New Zealand is the heavyweight champion.
Spectator A : what ?

Welcome to professional boxing as we know it.

One thing I've genuinely heard from a guy in the pub - Rocky Marciano would be too big and strong for today's heavyweights. He'd just walk through them. I had to ask him again as I thought I'd misheard.

Thats just the reality of the fact that casual fans make up the majority of ticket sales and PPV buys in a event like this

If an event like this was soley left down to the hardcore fans of boxing then it would sink, quick

But imo people have the right to pay and go to what they like don't they, it is aggravating when you hear people talking at a boxing event and it is quite clear that they barely know anything at all about the sport, but what can you do?

Ah, yes, like the good old days of Haye mania.

Wlad apparently had no claim to being the top HW, because he hadn't beaten that destructive giant Valuev.

No sport on Earth breeds such snobbery as boxing does towards its casual followers.

Maybe, although if people who obviously aren't informed try to act as if they're authorities on the matter, I have no problem with them being called out on their ignorance, even if a bit harshly. That's not just limited to boxing...
