Collazo wants $1mil

Post by jamesmcdonnell »

According to fightnews he's after a mill for the fight, isn't that what Baldomir asked for and didn't get?

I don't see him Collazo getting a million for this fight. Next opponent?

I'm sure Baldamoir was holding out for $2m?

Listen, if an opponent is not found soon, the fight could not even go ahead, as there would not be sufficient training time for them!

Just a thought I have!

I hope this is not the case, however! :(

Hatton's running out of options fast, he's potentially facing a struggle to get back to 140, and Collazo knows that whatever happens his current title rein is one to maximise profit from...

It's negotiating and Collazo's in a strong position. The fact that he's got a title at all is a travesty, but I suppose that's a legacy of the 'super champ' thing.

Maybe it was 2 mill baldomir wanted, I'm sure that the Hatton camp won't want to give Collazo a million though. I mean christ, most of Hattons opponents were on about 50k prior to the Tszyu fight.

N'Dou is always available and will make for a visually pleaseing spectacle, but shud the premier man at 140lb be feasting on Witter left overs?

This whole situation is one huge embarrasement to Team Hatton.

Why not fight Witter? For fucks sake this is beyond ridiculous now. Witter would take it for a lot less than a million dollars.

I'm starting to think the same Nick. Why doesn't he just bloody get Rabah out of the way! Screw HBO, Sky will show it and he will still get paid lots and get his mandatory out of the way. Then he can start negotiating with HBO again and get a 'proper' apponent other than asking people that are hand selected by Billy Graham and his so called Team Hatton! Geez, I bet even Hattons mum has a say on who his next apponent is!

not so sure Sky are going to fork out much for Hatton to fight Rabah, and undeserving mandatory unknown outside of his own living room....

Baldomir wanted over two million dollars, Collazo is talking about one million. Its reasonable for one world champ facing another I think. There should be plenty of money in the pot for this one: venue, HBO fees in the US plus SKY ppv in the UK which should generate over two million dollars on its own.

With Hattons new found stature he is going to have to get used to opponents demanding big amounts to fight him. I say pay the 1 mill for Collazo to pave way for future big earnings. If he beats Collazo he can then move up to 147 full time with a belt and we know that is where the real fights are going to be anyway, there is nothing left at 140. If he beats Collazo he can vacate at 140 and completely skip the unmarketable and easy Rabah fight.

Then with the 147 WBA belt to his name and Gatti potentially winning the WBC version of the belt he can set up a huge money unification fight in a big American venue. That means a big gate receipt, HBO coverage plus lots of US media coverage for fighting Gatti, good Sky Box Office takings and lots of exposure to set up even bigger money fights afterwards.

Collazo then Gatti then Judah/Mayweather winner should be his course with the current circumstances.

Still have a feeling that the Hattons will think he wants too much, although with not that much time left their hands might be tied.

Some of the figures I heard Hatton opponent offered were truly pittances in the past. Kelson Pinto was getting $50,000 if I remember correctly.

I agree it's like a comedy of errors. Hatton is becoming a laughing stock amomng US matchmakers due to the morons doing his business. They are acting like the Beverley Hillbillies and being laughed at behind their backs.

They have no expoerience and will screw his career up. Collazo is entitled to $1m he's the champion so why not? Do you think DK is just going to hand a WBA champ on a plate to the Hattons' for no reason and with no futures? Why should he?

In fact the truth ius Hatton wants all the money for himself and only wants the cheapests opponents out there.

I agree Witter would take it for $300k I bet so why doesn't Hatton take it?
Witter has credibility and has no looked freat of late so why not?

As they say, the answer is usually on your doorstep!

BY the way, Billy Graham (Team Hatton) made a right royal fornicate up in NY at the weekend with Matthew Macklin.....No wonder Hatton is struggling with these idiots around him.

Vivian Harris.

And 1 mill is the price to pick up a welterweight title I guess. Is it worth it? Does he need it? No.

Not for May, correct, but Floyd did offer last year and Ray turned it down to fight Maussa.

Far be it for me to defend Hatton;
But IBF-Warren-Hatton is looking similar to the IBF-Arum-Marquez featherweight scenario. :(

Collazo camp denies injury!
By Jason "J-Gon" Gonzalez; Fight News Tuesday, March 21 2006
"The rumor about Luis Collazo breaking his wrist is completely false," says Nirmal Lorick, trainer of the WBA welterweight champion. "It's a total lie. That might be Ricky [Hatton's] camp's way of turning down the fight. The fight is a go, however we have not received any dollar value. We want to make sure we get the same monetary value for fighting one of the best fighters pound-for-pound. I give Ricky Hatton his props. Ricky is one of the best fighters pound-for-pound, we just want to get paid....There's a $2.9 million jackpot, HBO is putting some money in, what we want is $1 million for the fight. [Monday] the WBA gave us the exemption on making the mandatory against Oktay Urkal." Collazo was slated to face Urkal on May 6. Lorick added that promoter Don King has received an undisclosed offer.

I've seen him fight three times in the flesh and he would get murdered by Hatton imside three rounds IMO So why don't they pay the money, grab a 147 title and kiss goodbye to court orders, weight making and the like.

Collazo is WBA champion whether we like it or not so why don't they pay him what he wants. Was HAtton not getting more than that for WBU title fights? Obviously he is now learning that he was well paid then!
