Mind you that's as much a tribute to his ring nous and how relaxed he could be in the ring as to any training he did or didn't do for the fight
It was the 11th, and yeah, even out of shape the Spoon was always a very clever fighter, relaxed and didn't expend unnecessary energy.
Did you see the BN interview with him about three years ago?

Fascinating talker on boxing, saying how a lot of the old school skills he was taught aren't being taught any more, how he took Holmes's jab away from him and how he was a loss to boxing, that he didn't become a big trainer and pass all that knowledge on.
Witherspoon was old school in his skills. Very clever would've liked to see an up for it, in shape Spoon against Tyson. He may have lost interest by then and got bombed by Bonecrusher in a shocker.

I hung out with him once, when he was in the UK. Very laid back and fun guy to hang with.

He is one of the worst holders of a heavyweight belt ever. His only good win was against Oliver McCall who although had the best chin ever, was at world level average (apart from one lucky punch against Lewis) and a professional sparring and a notorious drug addict, who seemed to be having a breakdown on the way to the ring......and McCall almost stopped him late.

Every other opponent of any quality stopped him. Even Floyd Cummings almost kod Frank and he had no wins of note. Witherspoon was a good fighter but totally out of shape, yet still kod Frank and was ahead on points at the time.

Bruno was a very well promoted, well matched fighter who was strong but pretty basic and had poor stamina and chin. Anyone claiming Bruno' s chin was better than Joshua is dreaming. Joshua took solid blows from Wlad throughout the bout.

Anyone who thinks Bruno would have any hope against Joshua is nuts. Joshua is a far, far superior fighter and would deal with Bruno comfortably.
I actually think Bruno would give Joshua quite a lot of trouble, Bruno was often at his best in a jabbing contest against opponents his own size, he was miles ahead against Bonecrusher Smith until he got caught by a speculative haymaker in the last round and imo his best ever performance was against Lennox Lewis, Lewis could not cope with the power of Bruno's jab and big Frank gave Lennox a boxing lesson for 6 and a half rounds. When Lewis caught Bruno Lennox was actually hurt, backed up in a corner, looking at the floor and winging away wildly, one of his wild punches caught Frank right on the button and the fight was over but if Frank would have stood off and continued to pick Lennox off from range instead of rushing in he would of won that fight imo.
Lewis was a great fighter but he got lucky that night.
It was the smaller fluid types that gave Bruno the most trouble, not the big men.
I'm not saying Bruno would have 100% won against Joshua but it certainly wouldn't have been a blow out.

Hat Bruno out-jabbed Lewis, and that Lewis was buzzed when Bruno walked into that left hook, are both true as far as my memory takes me. Boxing lesson is an overstatement though, in my view

Did you read the various press reports after the Lewis/Bruno fights? You seem to place great stock in the judges' scorecards, as if boxing scorecards have no history of controversy. The general media consensus was that Bruno was well ahead after 6.

Vitali Klitschko's reputation was made on him being ahead against Lewis after 6 rounds. Bruno is dismissed as a bum who got Lewis on an offnight.

Is there any chance that that battering ram Bruno jab knocked Lewis off his game?

Vitali lost to Lewis because of cut, after taking some monstrous punches without effect......he also had loads of energy left whereas Lennox was exhausted.

He wasn't lying against the ropes glass eyed and with a stupid look on his face.

Vitali has 15 championship wins in 2 reigns, and other wins in world class. Bruno has 1 win and 5 KO losses against anyone vaguely world class.

Bruno is a very limited fighter but big and strong. He's not a bum but one of the worst so called champs ever.HE ONLY BEAT ONE WORLD CLASS FIGHTER IN HIS WHOLE CAREER

Vitali had lots of energy left? He staggered drunk to his stool, gulping air. He looks absolutely spent.

Also, Bruno's win over Oliver McCall trumps any win on Vitali Klitschko's record. Vitali's best win is Corrie Sanders - a 39 year old 90's fringe contender coming off a 13 month layoff. After that he's out of top class wins, if that Sanders win can even be termed top class.

You really need to rewatch that fight or stop smoking so much weed as your memory is buffered.... when it was called off Vitali went nuts, running round the ring shouting an protesting as Lewis sat slumped on his stool.....

To suggest a fight against a known crack head, albeit with a concrete chin, a fight he almost got stopped, make Frank's resume better than Vitali is just risible.....even individually win against Peter, Johnson, Gomez, Arreola, Briggs, Solis, Chisora, Adamek, Williams, Donald plus more are at least equal to McCall and were delivered a lot more impressively. McCall almost stopped Bruno. Bruno is in real terms a very limited fighter with ONE win against vaguely world class opponent. Henry Akinwande wouldve beaten him.

Ah the old "you must be smoking" chestnut.

Henry Akinwande turned down a Frank Bruno fight repeatedly. He was also left facedown unconscious by a 36 year old Oliver McCall - probably why he didn't fancy Frank.

Now what exactly makes "Peter, Johnson, Gomez, Arreola, Briggs, Solis, Chisora, Adamek, Williams, Donald" equal to Oliver McCall?

McCall KOd Lennox Lewis, Henry Akinwande, Francesco Damiani and Bruce Seldon, among others - all in their prime!

Peter, the Nigerian McDonald's employee's Nightmare, beat. . . erm. . . Oh but Kevin Johnson beat. . . erm. . . The 40 year old Shannon Briggs did have his (controversial) win over a 50 year old Foreman, over a decade previously. . . Solis, well he of course beat. . . erm. . . I know Danny Williams beat the cadaver of someone famous. . .

All the names you rattled off are a herd of slobs, 40 year olds, British domestic/fringe Euro pugs et al, without one single A-class scalp among them - unless you credit the 40 year old Brigg's "win" over a 50 yr old Foreman, a mere 13 years prior to fighting Vitali.

And yet you pour scorn on Frank Bruno's record? Bruno would be Vitali's best win, had their career paths crossed and Vitali beaten him. Now put that in your crackpipe and smoke it!

Lewis always struggled against fighters who could take away his jab, Mercer, Bruno and Holyfield (in the rematch) all outjabbed him for large portions of the fight, making it hard work for him.

The Spoon who boxed on the Lewis/Mercer card would have been a 'mare for Lewis - as Lewis fanatic Glynn Leach acknowledged in his writeup of the night!

Bruno and Mercer certainly did not outjab The Terrible One the way they did LL.

 ok let's just agree to disagree as we're both unlikely to change our positions :D . However as a final comment let's remember that Bruno was being out boxed by chuck Gardner until Bruno got lucky with a big punch!

Corrie Sanders modelled his physique on Chuck Gardner!

Speaking of South African Heavies Bruno knocked out Gerrie Coetzee who was half decent (ex WBA title holder)

The Spoon who boxed on the Lewis/Mercer card would have been a 'mare for Lewis - as Lewis fanatic Glynn Leach acknowledged in his writeup of the night!

Bruno and Mercer certainly did not outjab The Terrible One the way they did LL.
I haven't seen the Mercer fight but IIRC Spoon says if it that he had no skill at all

Spoon/Mercer is great, great 90s heavyweight punchup. On the Bowe/Golota II undercard. Treat yourself!

Coetzee was an extremely dangerous world class fighter with a big punch. He could fight 15 rounds at a pace. To annihilate him the way Bruno did was awesome, but Bruno never gets any credit because it doesn't fit the 'Bruno couldn't beat a world class opponent' narrative.

Coetzee was much better than Corrie Sanders, whose talents have mysteriously reached almost mythical status.

Although an ageing Coetzee did say afterwards that he had hardly trained and brought his family over for a holiday......

"Ageing"? He was 30! Have you checked the ages of the men you listed as being significant wins for Vitali Klitscho? They have a mean age of 36! Do your double standards never end?

When Ruddock got blown out by Lewis he said he didn't like the weather. Losing boxer has lousy alibi shocker.

He was decent but stamina was not his strong point, I don't know where you get that from, pretty much every fight the commentators wonder when his dodgy stamina was going to give way, he punched himself out after about 6 rounds against Weaver IIRC and the guy who fought Bruno was definitely not the one who went those rounds with Weaver Thomas or Dokes

Solid win I agree but selling him as a stamina machine doesn't fit his career where concerns over his stamina were a constant refrain

Also I am always wary of rating a win over a guy who retires imediately after, too highly
