Unless you account for the fact that rankings also take activity into account
Fury has been out of the ring 18 months and is currently back in training.
Stop being so quick to write Fury off just so you can insert AJ as the King of boxing. He has to earn that title...

Why put a definite timescale on it? You just cant wait to put a line through Furys name and put Joshua on top of the tree.Rob3_142 wrote:So what's the threshold for inactivity? 24 months?wesshaw1985 wrote:don't be moronic.davie wrote:

Mike Tyson was in jail for 3 plus years. People didn't stop talking about him during that time.
Fury is 28, Wlad is still going at 41.
If I was you I would be preying Fury comes back and gets in the ring with Joshua. Then, should Joshua win, you can anoint AJ...
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
If Joshua fights all the contenders bar Fury, (in fact, if he just beats Wilder), then he's above Fury on every conceivable level.wesshaw1985 wrote:Why put a definite timescale on it? Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
I do wish that, very much. But I don't believe it will happen. I don't want to draw a line through anybody's name, I just want them to fight so we don't need these discussions. For me, one excellent win does not justify untouchable status in the rankings. If he would have fought one more opponent after Wlad, even if it was just a top 30 plodder, it would show a bit more than what he did instead.wesshaw1985 wrote:Why put a definite timescale on it? It's not even the inactivity. It's the drugs scandal, it's the revoking of his license, it's the fact he's ballooned in size and not really showing a lot of real indication that he genuinely desires to come back. By all means bring him back in the rankings if he starts to right a few wrongs, but until then, just forget about him.
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
I just wish we cut through all the boring fights and rematches and Ifs and buts and unify the HW Title. Aj should fight wilder no rematch with Klitschko. Dillan whyte has never ducked anyone and wants to progress so i could see him beating Parker or Ortiz . If fury comes back i see him beating everyone he s a switch hitter unpredictable and a long reach. Are there any other fighters out there knocking everyone out and not Ducking anyone ?
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
To be fair Fury's last fight was against Wlad, Joshua has just fought Wlad, and Parker hasn't been able to defend once. It's not like these fights aren't happening.mikiesb wrote:I just wish we cut through all the boring fights and rematches and Ifs and buts and unify the HW Title. Wilder is the one which needs to happen at some point but I don't think Joshua Wlad II fits into 'boring rematch' territory. It was a genuine thriller which both could have won. It would sell well and is clearly a competitive fight. Wlad Fury was competitive but the rematch fell apart and sold terribly because it was so boring.

Wilder hasn't beaten anyone to make him a name worth taking, he simply holds a piece of jewellery.dirk2686 wrote:If Joshua fights all the contenders bar Fury, (in fact, if he just beats Wilder), then he's above Fury on every conceivable level.wesshaw1985 wrote:Why put a definite timescale on it? Until fury has a fight signed up I have big doubts we'll see him again. Joshua is number 1 as it stands today. Fury has surrendered his number 1 spot by jacking the Wlad rematch. If he hadn't then it's likely Joshua wouldn't even have landed the Wlad fight.
Fury did the hard work to dethrone Wlad and then jacked it since and allowed Joshua to pick up the crown that really he should be wearing after his big win in Germany
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
No he isnt,he isnt ranked as not fought for over 2 years, even if he came back he isnt as imo joshua is no.1,he stopped the man nit just beat him he stopped him, fury hardly laid a glove on klit,at keast joshua came to fight. Fury vs wlad was ine if the worst heavyweight fights in historyOiky wrote:Fury is number 1

Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
I always enjoy reading your opinions on here and your videos are great, but still having Fury as #1 is nonsense right now.
The bloke is 25st, hasn't fought in 18 months, hasn't got a fight lined up, he hasn't even got a licence and there are still some serious questions about potential PED use.
We can't just keep Fury in indefinitely. If someone is clearly still "active" (if they've had a recent fight called off, or have one lined up) then fair enough but Fury isn't even close to fighting shape and there's nothing on the horizon except ever-changing return dates with no venue or opponent. A few videos of him smashing the pads doesn't count as active.

Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
It would be nice for things to progress in the HW division not stagnate. I remember the super middleweight super six tournament years ago froch ward etc that sorted out the true number one. that sort of tournament is unlikely.to happen again. No point in taking about fury until he s fit got his licence back etc but i think he will do it he s supremely confident and never phased by who's in front of him and.fights his fight. I don't like rematches if the first first was a clear winner. On a side note Andre ward will beat Sergei kolavev again but that was a very close fight. Aj needs to fight wilder then Parker for an easy fight after apart from wilder and Parker does aj.need to fight anyone else who's active ??.
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
Without a doubt Joshua is the current #1.
Fury did great to beat Wlad, but lets be honest he fidgeted his way to a win in a stinker, he could have tried to hurt Wlad but did not want to take any risks, and for whatever reason you care to believe, he never took the rematch he was contracted into which raises some question marks in my book. He has been out for 18 months since, no way does he deserve to be above Joshua at this time.

I'm not the one who can't understand how a fighter who 1. has previously stated he has retired, 2. been stripped of his belts, 3. is almost 10 stone over his fighting weight, 4. has been out of the ring for 18 months with no come back scheduled and 5. is facing a long running drug accusation that doesn't look like going away anytime soon, isn't ranked higher than a man who just unified 2 world titles by having the biggest win in the heavyweight division since Fury's. I'm not sure I'm the moron here.
Take Fury out of the picture and Joshua is the best heavyweight in the world right now
And guess what.....Fury is out of the picture.
Until he returns and proves otherwise, Anthony Joshua is no1 heavyweight on the planet, followed by Wilder, Wlad & Parker.
I can only assume, you are implying I'm some kind of Joshua fan boy/Fury hater. Have a quick look at my posting history will set you straight on that score. I have been more than critical of AJ, his record, his weaknesses, the question marks looming over him.
Unlike many, I take an objective view and gave Fury massive credit when it was due. I ranked him rightly well above Joshua after his astounding win.
Now it's time to give credit to the new king. If Fury want's his crown, he'll have to come back and take it
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
Simple answer
It was Wlad
Then it was fury
Fury missed to boat to capitalise and has mega problems, basically inactive and no idea if he'll be back
Joshua vs Wlad therefore was to settle who is now best
Joshua won
So it's joshua
It was Wlad

Who knows when he'll be back so it's hard to put a solid case rating him. If he comes back and wins I'd expect him to feature near top.
However if nobody else had done anything of note while fury has been AWOL then it's hard to place them as the genuine number 1. Like Parker or wilder. But Joshua has, while furys in hiding he too like fury has beaten the best man for last decade and has the worthwhile achievement to put him at 1.
If fury comes back soon and lines up a fight he still has some weight to claim he is the man to beat, and he'd be right. But you can't become the man and go into hiding and not expect others to come along and surpass you if you're not fighting

2. Wlad
3. Wilder
4. Povetkin
5. Ortiz
If someone was to put Parker above 4 or 5 I have no massive issue
If fury was active, but there is assumptions being made here as there was the Wlad rematch etc
1. Fury
2. Joshua (but I'm going out of timeline here as Joshua doesn't get Wlad fight while he's fight fury 2)
3. Wlad
4. Wilder
5. Povetkin
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
Hmm... nearly forgot What's happening with Lucas.brown ? I reckon he would give most top 5 hws a problem.
Re: Who is no.1 heavyweight
I am sorry but povetkin needs to be banned from all rankings. How many drug tests has he failed? I hope a governing body bans him from life at this point.Ossyrules wrote:

I agree that Wilder is below Wlad though. On Saturday night I realised that Wilder would not beat Joshua after the fight. If Wlad is in the shape he was for Joshua, he will also beat Wilder.

I think the top guys would beat him easily.mikiesb wrote:Hmm... nearly forgot What's happening with Lucas.brown ? I reckon he would give most top 5 hws a problem.
Even hepatitis Chagaev was well ahead and nearly won by stoppage prior to being taken out.
