Joshua-Klitschko Live Broadcast Drew 659K Viewers for Showtime

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

An average of 659,000 viewers tuned in to Showtime’s live telecast Saturday of the highly entertaining Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko heavyweight title fight from London.

The average viewership, based on figures released by Nielsen Media Research on Monday, was the highest in Showtime’s history for a live boxing broadcast that began in the afternoon. The Joshua-Klitschko fight started just after 5 p.m. ET and 2 p.m. PT.

Nielsen is expected to release the peak viewership for Showtime’s telecast Tuesday. Initial numbers indicate, however, that Showtime’s average audience was 687,000 from 5:15-5:30 p.m. ET, when the pivotal fifth and sixth rounds took place.

These are good numbers for a late afternoon, an increase from Joshua's two previous fights. Good exposure to the American audience. I'm waiting on the HBO number for the later replay, I have a feeling the numbers will be either around the same or we'll see an increase.

Joshua-Klitschko Live Broadcast Drew 10.43 million viewers for RTL

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

German TV ratings are out from private free-to-air network RTL. In an official press release (German only) sent out on Monday, 10.43 million viewers tuned in to see the bout, with the average for the overall broadcast coming in at 9.59 million.

That’s higher than the 8.91 million (40.1% market share) for the Tyson Fury fight. The 42.3% market share for the 14-59 age demographic is his best since beating Poland’s Mariusz Wach by unanimous decision in 2012, with over 11 million watching the contest.

His best-rated fight was his 2011 win over David Haye, which peaked at over 16 million.

As it stands, Wladimir has three fights left on his multi-million dollar agreement with his longtime television partner.
