Likewise. Something like this belongs in Wrestlemania. And Briggs was never really heavyweight champ.

I looked up Briggs record. Unless I'm reading it wrong whatever I don't recall Briggs being a two time champ. If Briggs is a two time champ he beats Oquendo he would be in select company as three time heavyweight champ. Hard to believe.

Some ridiculous championships they put him down for, WBA-NABA whatever that is. He only "beat" one single good fighter, Liakhovich, and Liak. was ahead on all the cards and then he deliberately stuck his jaw in front of Briggs - with his corner hysterically shouting at him to just stay the hell away! - so he could take his dive in the very last second of the fight.

Oquendo on the other hand was a legit heavy who should have been a champ a few times but was robbed by crooked judges and ref. But he's 44 and he hasn't fought in three years since losing to Chagaev.

They are saying he is two-time champ because they count his victory over George Foreman as the lineal heavyweight championship. No belt was at stake in that fight.

There has not been much boxing in Florida lately. Many people will attend. Also, Holyfield and other former heavyweight champs will be there, so that's another reason why people will go.

He won the Lineal championship from Foreman, although it's not physically a belt, it's still recognized.

I don't recognize it. When Lennox Lewis retired, then "the man that beats the man" ended. Then, they make a new lineage. Foreman was stripped for not fighting ranked contenders, but he was still lineal. I think it's BS for someone to be still considered a champ if he is not fighting his mandatory challengers. He was stripped of one belt for not fighting Tony Tucker and he was stripped of the other for not giving Axel Schulz a rematch. Anyway, it was a controversial decision and most people believe Foreman should have won over Briggs. Briggs got the decision over Foreman, but this fight was about three years after Foreman defeated Michael Moorer to win the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles. Without counting the lineal title, Briggs won a major world heavyweight title only once.

Yeah that's another mystery altogether. Maybe Oquendo is some kind of mystery emeritus champion or whatever the WBA calls them or something. Another hard to believe.

Oquendo is getting one more chance to be a champion and it's against 45-year-old Briggs. If he can't do it now, then he'll always be remembered for this, unless the judges are biased and it goes to a decision.

I think it is an interesting matchup whether the WBA sanctioned it or not. If the WBA was not involved, this fight probably would not be happening, so I just accept it. We all know who the real WBA champion is.

I'm glad the fight is on, as one of them is sure to retire if they lose, probably Fres. But, it just makes a mockery of the title and they're the only ABC who do this crap.

Yeah, I agree about the organizations, but fights often don't get made unless a belt is at stake. The WBA title had a great history/lineage and now that the Super title is there, the belt is now like a second tier belt. It is on the level of a minor title like an Intercontinental or Silver.

The WBA owes Oquendo a title shot due to a court order.
That is the only reason this fight is happening. Briggs is the only available heavyweight out there willing to bother with Oquendo. Chagaev decided retirement sounded better than wasting time with Oquendo again. Browne was willing to fight Oquendo but even the shameless WBA wouldn't tolerate him repeatedly failing drug tests.
I'm not a fan of the WBA but I'm glad they will finally be done with this court ordered Oquendo fight.

Perhaps, my fear he dances around. Briggs 7 punch out put and being too lazy to cut off a ring make it a complete shyt fest.
