I didn't think I'd be as excited for this fight as a lot of others recently with Golovkin being taken 12 rounds, Huck losing, Crolla and Frampton both losing their fights on top of those this one doesn't look like a bad fight for either win or lose.
Both are fighting out of what is their natural weight and it's more for the pride of winning the fight rather then a world title that wouldn't do much for either man really.

If both men come in wanting to win this fight for the bragging rights of winning instead of using it to set up bigger fights or chasing a belt then we'll all be glad we watched it after all is said and done.

It's incredible the lengths Alvarez will go to to avoid the key fight, Golovkin. Actually going down a weight (light middleweight) then up a weight (super middleweight catchweight), in back to back fights.

Usually when big fights are left to "marinate" (I hate that word) they never happen. Mares v Donaire, Gamboa v Juan Manuel Lopez, etc.

I have a sauna after I've been in the gym. It's nice. I'm not cutting any weight. Tyson Fury was on about some sauna-off he had with Wlad in some training camp, where he psyched out Wlad with his "mind games" to leave the sauna first. Heavyweights aren't cutting weight.

I'm really looking forward to this one, I can't see how it won't be good. Don't particularly like either fighter but I reckon they will match-up perfectly. They're both pretty static and one-dimensional, I think they'll meet in the centre of the ring and trade shots for as long as it goes on.

JCC has gained fans for taking this fight. I never liked him, but I'm backing him 100% against the ducking ginger.
I hope it's a good fight, full of action. Someone needs to knock Canelo off his pedistool, and this could be the one. Good boxers make him look ordinary- until he knocks them out. That can't last. JCC is taking it seriously no doubt. Big ask for him given the weight and the B level he has fought most of his fights at.

FWIW Omar Chavez and Ramon Alvarez are fighting this weekend in Mexico for some reason (aka "El Businessman" vs "Innocente" - great nicknames, guys). Dunno if they developed their own beef in the run up or something. You'd think it'd make more sense for them to fight on their brothers' undercard either way.

Wasnt too fussed TBH but I watched that Mano o Mano yesterday and its got me in the mood for this, stylistically its a great match up, ive never been a massive fan of Chavez Jr, he's game, tough, takes a wicked shot but I always thought his ability was overrated although I do think the Lee win was impressive especially in hindsight but his dedication pissed me off, too many flat performances but by all accounts he's right up for this one and in terrific shape so here's hoping

Canelo is another one whos antics regarding ducking Golovkin have waned my interest in him and I'm not the fan I used to be, don't get me wrong I still love watching him and he's a class fighter and I think he's improving after a few shaky performances when he was younger, his weight capers have put me off though so I just hope Chavez Jr doesn't come in too drained and Alvarez has another massive advantage against an opponent

I think Alvarez is too good for Chavez Jr in all departments even in strength which is where I imagine most people think Chavez will hold the aces, he's a better boxer, has more championship experience and should have a better engine than even a fit Jr, Chavez is tough though and i'd be pretty shocked if Canelo can KO him, I don't see Chavez winning too many rounds he hasn't the quality Canelo has but here's hoping the whole Mexico angle makes this into a war and evens the playing field

Chavez Jr will be coming in weighing in the mid 180s.

To be fair to him, he was able to walk through Lee's big hooks and took everything Martinez had to offer and had him holding and running for his life in the 12th.

The problem with predicting this fight is that this could be the one time that he genuinely gets himself in top condition and does it right. He looks in great shape.

It all depends on whether he can walk canelo down. He's got some really nice moves that he picked up from his dad to get inside. Canelo fancies himself as a boxer and likes dodging punching Mayweather style but if he ships a good hook from 185 pounds Chavez, I'm not sure he will be able to take too many. Chavez might just be too big. He's got a solid chin generally.

I guess I really like Chavez and I'm trying to make the case for him. Canelo is the superior boxer but he came across like an absolute tosser on the HBO faceoff

Canelo certainly looks healthier but I wonder how much each guy will rehydrate and, if Canelo is even bigger for this fight, how much that extra weight will affect him. Chavez always looked like Skeletor weighing in but came in massive. I can see a repeat of that here.
