I might change my mind again when I see him on the scales. Last time he made 168 he looked gruesome man. What's this fight at? 164?
164.5, and JCC Jr will definitely need that extra half pound!
Yeah you'd think so mate. He'll need every ounce lol. Is there not some sort of ridiculous penalty in place if he comes in over?
To be honest I haven't followed much of the build up for this one. I'd imagine there is since this will be the heaviest fight of Canelo's career and he'll want to mitigate the risk of Chavez rehydrating to HW :OhYes:

Yeah I'm sure they'll be all sorts of daft stipulations laid out! Seems to be common place for Canelo nowadays! I'm sure I heard there was some kind of mental financial penalty if Chavez is overweight. 100s of thousands for every pound or whatever. Can't remember the exact figures.

I used to quite like Canelo but until he mans up and fights GGG I'm going against him

Boxing has twisted my head to the point where I always look at two outcomes: what do I want and what's best for the sport? What other sport does that to a person

In this case Canelo winning is better for the sport because it pushes him a little closer to superstardom and mega fights with GGG or someone. But a Chavez win would be nice :OhYes:

If a miracle happens and Chavez beats Canelo, we should be thankful to Jr for popping one of the biggest bubbles in the recent boxing history.

Jesus fukk! What a riot! He'll be training like a man possessed! They'll probably have to carry him to the ring and carry him out at that rate! Interested to see the weigh in.

Yup i read that too, million per pound.

I hear he's made the weight though. Going to be an interesting fight if the tables are turned on ginger kid and he's facing an opponent with a significant sisze and ring weight advantage.

My local tv coverage seems to only cover the main fight. Better than nothing I guess.

Unrelated note:
Gabe Oppenheim‏
@GabeOppenheim

Al Haymon just hugged @OscarDeLaHoya in an @MGMGrand arena hallway: most unexpected & oddly heartwarming boxing scene I can recently recall.
Interesting.

If he doesn't how about start a thread stating the fact that you are not an expert, and admit you are just a run-of-the-mill troll?

I think that the fact that it's 2 Mexican fighters is most significant. The form book says Canelo but this like a local derby. Both sides will dig deep, neither will want to lose face. Too much at stake, especially for Chavez Jr.

The prince and the pauper. A dollar too far for Canelo/ Oscar?

Didn't Chavez Jr. stupidly bet his purse on the faceoff? He has to win or else he loses his entire purse to Canelo.

Good Question. Not much was made of it recently. So it's probably not taken seriously. Can't imagine either fighter doing that. It will be interesting to hear if the supposed bet is brought up on tonight's PPV. Or after.

I hope Canelo v JCC Jr turns out to be a good fight for our Mexican friends as well as us, they now have centre stage so lets see what they deliver.
The big question is Chavez Jr isn't it ?
We all know Canelo by now and are aware of his power and his general boxing skills improvement over the last couple of years.
Chavez Jr who has participated in some entertaining fights has also been burdened by a lack of motivation, hopefully on the big stage he can up his game and spirit and make this something to remember.
This is the fight that i circled as soon as i heard it because i think that this one is going to be a war. I predict that the fight will closely resemble Cotto/Margarito 1. I see Canelo landing dazzling combinations throughout but JCCJR will keep coming forward and he's eventually going to catch up to Canelo and we'll see how Canelo finishes that fight. I can see JR getting beaten badly early and being down huge on cards late when all the excitement will begin in the 11th and 12th.
NO WAR HERE!! ... This is going to be a mugging not a contest.

I see it exactly the same as you, its a pride thing. Like back in the amateur days when you get paired up with the guy the next club to you. Good luck to Chavez jr really keen to hear the crowd reaction for both!

No idea why Canelo took this fight. Fighting a guy he can't lose to who is 2 divisions bigger. If he loses it's a DISASTER for his career. If he wins it's so what. Stupid matchmaking.

It's big money and anything but GGG. He certainly doesn't want any of a Charlo or Andrade.
