Is Chavez jr mental?
Is Chavez jr mental?
In the first 8 rds he rately threw a punch at all. Sometimes he punched 1-3 times in 1 rd and connected 1 time
...i mean he was the taller bigger guy, he needed to do pressure, not the opposite around. Never threw a 1+2 combo. Nothing. How could i been so fooled by the training vids, i should ve rembered that he always was c level, he was c when lost 11 out of 12 rds. Vs martinez, he was c when he got all those gift descisions and today he looked z level
everybody wil be laughing about me. I am sad
Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
I think his plan was to cover up and cash in with as little damage as possible
For him the biggest fight was probably making weight

If true. Why all the running in the mountains. The prep etc. Just for weight and money.crusader wrote:I think his plan was to cover up and cash in with as little damage as possible

I was just stupid to think that he would change his style. He always was a guy who rarely threw punches.

No, he did his job and got paid.Jip wrote:In the first 8 rds he rately threw a punch at all. This fight did nothing to get GingerHead ready for what is coming.
Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
In the 6 he hurt ca a bit. He had the power to pose him problems. But the plan to punch every 100 years worked wounders

None of them fought like real Mexicans. Canelo could stop Jr, but didn't want to take any risks. They should both look up at Reyes who took awful punishment from Lemieux, but was still trying his best and beyond.

Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
His job was throw punches. Thats boxing. By not punching he was not doing his job. He rarely tried at all. Give me 3 month of preparation and would have thrown and landed more than him.Tanzio wrote:No, he did his job and got paid.Jip wrote:In the first 8 rds he rately threw a punch at all. He would get his payday cut big time if he missed weight, and he needed to train hard to make the limitJip wrote:If true. Why all the running in the mountains. The prep etc. Just for weight and money.crusader wrote:I think his plan was to cover up and cash in with as little damage as possible

He was not to damage GingerHead. He probably got a bonus for how little he threw.Jip wrote:His job was throw punches. Thats boxing. By not punching he was not doing his job. He rarely tried at all. Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
As poor as Chavez was tonight I'm not as disappointed as most as ive never rated him, still I thought he would've at least mount more than 3 attacks, I think he felt the weight of all those Alvarez shots straight away and was a bit stunned, they were solid shots Canelo was landing
Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
Let Chavez go, he lacks skill, motivation, drive. Probably in the best shape of his life, even hid the smug smile as Canelo would have bashed it off in no time. Good money fight, nothing else.

Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
Chavez Jr never had great stamina even when he wasn't weight-drained. Canelo has a good chin, better boxing skills and was physically in much better condition, so the result shouldn't really come as a surprise. It was a bit like the 'size advantage' De La Hoya had against Pacquiao - it meant nothing because his stamina was sapped by having to make a weight that no longer suits him.
Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
Don't feel bad man. You and I are not alone when it came to the excitement for this fight. Passionate fans try to find entertainment in any interesting matchup on paper but we got rooked by a complete money grab from JCCJR in this one. He knew his career was over and wanted one last payday and a lot of us took the bait.Jip wrote:In the first 8 rds he rately threw a punch at all. My opinion is that JCCJR's fight was against the scale in this one. Once he made the weight, goal achieved. The fight was secondary. That's the only way to explain how a fighter could go 12 rounds without throwing hardly any punches. Makes no sense. At no point did he try to win that fight. none

I didn't see the fight, and from the posts I read glad I didn't. Did Jr act weight drained at all? I don't understand why he wasn't throwing punches. I guess it wasn't just a bad night he had against Fonfara. Sounds like he is nearly shot at 31.

Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
To be fair, when has Chavez Jr actually looked good? Getting a lucky decision against Zbik? Coming from behind to KO Andy Lee? Knocking Martinez down after losing 11 rounds? To answer my own question, I think the Andy Lee win was his best performance, but he was down 4-2 on the scorecards and Lee has never had a great chin. He has never been an elite fighter.Badhusker wrote:I didn't see the fight, and from the posts I read glad I didn't. Did Jr act weight drained at all? Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
The whole thing stinks. First there was the bullshit excuses with the BJS scene. Then there was the ready made weight drain excuses, and not to mention the old blame the trainer ploy. To top it off, a rerun of the stage managed enter GGG fiasco from last time.
Even without having seen the fight it looks like a diabolical con job. I can understand the promoters et al wanting to turn boxing into a risk free mega money earner, but they could end up killing the golden goose.
Easy to imagine ODLH 'negotiating' with the GGG camp. 'Go easy with Canelo (like you did with Jacobs) and if you do get our man in trouble, just hold back a bit. We/you don't want to lose the even bigger rematch!'
All of a sudden the GGG has gone from being something to fear into the biggest cash cow in boxing. Maybe I'm bring paranoid but integrity and sport can become quickly distanced when this much money is involved.
Just when we thought last weeks fight had saved boxing.

Chavez Jr was a major disapointment last night
Canelo has himself a proper fight in september though.. And one he will lose

"To big, to powerful h ll be able to take c shots but slow c wont be able to take his. Chavez knows what it feels to be punched by a 6'2 atrong lh, c all his life dealt with weak opponents either old mosley, small weak khan or feather fisted floyd. Around rd 10 all will be over."
This is hilarious

Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
It's the same old story with Chavez Jr. Expectation. Having to live up to his father's legacy. Being constantly called Son of A Legend. Hopefully after the shellacking Canelo played on Chavez Jr. that expectation won't exist anymore.
Overall Chavez Jr. is Chavez Jr. A "B" level fighter. Even that rating might be generous.

Re: Is Chavez jr mental?
Chavez basically got paid to train and lose weight. That's it. Canelo and Golden Boy been selling fans snake oil for a while now.
Where does Chavez go from here? I don't mean career, I mean country cause he sure let Mexico down big time.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing GGG beat this diva. I truly believe Canelo is quietly shitting himself.
