Ive gotta say as much as I was disappointed in Chavez Jr, I quite enjoyed that, I thought Alvarez was immense, he's really improved to an all round boxer, I expected Canelo to dominate so I'm not surprised in that aspect but I was surprised how little fight Chavez showed for battle, the only success he had was with his flurries which Alvarez dictated and encouraged by backing up into the ropes after realising Chavez wasn't interested, Canelo started off fast for a change and was really loading up early, the punches were that accurate that I thought Chavez might not make it into the 5th


Canelo has always been an old head and body for his age and been mature beyond his years, he's achieved a lot an been in with some great fighters, the Mayweather fight come too soon at 22 and I doubt he'd ever beat Floyd but he's definitely improved, he's got everything , as I said a real all rounder, the way he puts his punches together, his strength, his toughness, engine but it was ring generalship that impressed me most tonight


I'm trying to keep in mind how bad Chavez was but I think after the fast start in the 1st round, Alvarez made him feel his power and made him think twice and concentrate on not getting hit again


Theres a lot of knowledgable guys on here, even on CS but some guys get hung up on previous losses as to why a fighter wont win a certain fight but I think Alvarez is a perfect example of a fighter improving with the experience of fighting world class opposition

I wish him and his team would cut the bullsh1t with Golovkin though

i wasn't that impressed to be honest. with the lack of punches coming back his way he had carte blanche to do what he liked and he never looked like shifting chavez. chavez took everything canelo had on the night and never looked hurt once.
if he stands that square on against golovkin he will end up on his arse more than once,though i don't expect him to be taking the same liberties with gennady .

i don't think we have seen the best of canelo or ggg yet ,as you say canelo was too inexperienced against mayweather and no one has pushed him since. we will find out just how good both men are come september, lets hope it lives up to its potential.

How anyone can enjoy a legitimate 120-108 fight is beyond me .

It takes two to make a fight. Chavez should use his purse to refund some of the poor people who paid for that utter rubbish.

You're impressed by his engine? He hasnt gassed, true, but he also takes large portions of rounds off and virtually never fights a full 3 minutes. I think any semblance of good stamina is in reality him recognizing his energy limitations, and thus moderating his output to a managable amount.

I don't think he has a bad engine, its not his strongest point but he conserves his energy well, he noticeably dropped a gear after the 1st few rounds tonight but always done enough to stay in control, I think the weaknesses in his game are bettered by his boxing brain

Chavez junior should be ashamed of himself. It was clear from the first bell he was only interested in survival and never had any belief that he would win. He only turned up to be paid- under false pretences and he used his father's name and conned the public.

Skipped to the end after round 7. Chavez was doing nothing to make it remotely competitive. If he didn't have a legendary father he would be no where. He only trained to make the catch weight.

It also pi55ed me off a lot that BT referred to Chavez as an ex world champion. He was as much a world champion as Scott Quigg was. He got schooled in his only world title fight against Sergio.


As for Canelo that fight did nothing to prepare him for GGG. He will actually hit him back. GGG isn't a paper champion like Liam Smith who can't box on the back foot and no where remotely near world class.

Canelo still leading with ridiculous body shots and uppercuts. I can honestly see a highlight reel KO in this fight and I can not wait

That was a fuckin shambles. Chavez was utter dog shít and was nothing more than a moving target all night. As much as I want to slate him I can't be too harsh because he obviously left it all in the gym because of the weight stipulations. He had nothing from the off. Death warmed up.

Canelo looked good aye but against what? Im sick of this weight pish with Canelo now. Man the fornicate up and fight GGG at 160. Level playing field for a change and let's see how good he is.

During the fight and after they've slated Chavez (and rightly so) and praised Canelo. Nobody has mentioned this weight crap at all. The Canelo camp knew what they were doing negotiating this fight.

Duran/palomino was 99-90 legit and it was great. This was brutally bad. The $85 or $90 I spent on it after drinks has me more ill than the hangover.

Glad i didnt stay up fir the fight. Terrible. Chavez looked to have nothing to offer. Canelo looked good against someone who barely fired back. I dont think his power will trouble GGG. He landed untold power shots on chavez and never came close to taking him out.

Unfortunately I stayed up.

Chavez didn't bring any ambition. He looked to be in journeyman/survival mode from round one. Even when Canelo appeared to sit on ropes and invite him in, Chavez could only lightly hit his arms and elbows. As bad as a performance I've ever seen in such a modern high profile fight.
If I was Chavez Sr I'd be asking for a DNA test.

I'm not a huge fan of team Canelo. The only reason they've now taken the GGG fight is because they feel he's on the slide. Should of been made 12-18 months ago.
