GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
According to HBO this is the schedule. Share your opinion.
In my opinion it is time for this clash, Canelo cant duck GGG anymore, would be a big shame for him and for boxing.

Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Ggg knocks the flat footed kid out.
Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Canelo cant knock Golovkin out. Canelo still has a stamina issue. He will try to outbox Golovkin and take it to the cards.
Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Ecactly. But the more athletic with better footwork brook couldnt steal more than 2 rds than canelo wont be able to do much better
On top just to slow, wont be able to get away from gs punches.

Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Until the Brook fight, I'd have picked GGG by KO every time. I did again anyway, but with far less confidence than I would have in the past. I wouldn't be surprised to see a close fight that goes the distance, where most people have GGG winning 7-5 or 8-4, but the judges give it to Canelo. I think Canelo's superior handspeed, plus his body punching and upper body movement could pose problems for GGG. On the other hand, I think GGG's jab, better footwork and greater punch output could give Canelo troubles. Both have very good chins, which is partly why I could see it going the distance - I don't see GGG stopping Canelo with one punch or combo, it will probably have to be a methodical beatdown and I'm think it's possible Canelo is too good to let that happen. I really, really want GGG to win, though.

Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Canelo by friendly judging decision
Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
GGG obviously.
Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Canelo by a clear-cut decision win. I see Canelo being very successful countering GGG. Canelo doesn't need good footwork to beat GGG. GGG will be there to counter and Canelo won't have to go anywhere to find him. Canelos head movement and countering ability will prevail.
Just because Jacobs had success agaisnt GGG with good movement, doesn't mean Canelo has to fight the same way to win. Canelo is a crafty fighter and very good at what he does.

I honestly believe people on here exaggerate GGGs abilities and undermine Canelos. The heart is too strong for GGG around these parts, gonna be alot of people eat in crow and making excuses.

A lot of heart for and against him these days....the haters of 'lil G' are abundant and just as passionateNateJR wrote:I honestly believe people on here exaggerate GGGs abilities and undermine Canelos. I'll be labeled a hater until it comes to fruition. I'm fine with picking against popular opinion, I'm fine with being labeled a hater because I think Canelo will win and convincing. Most here couldn't fathum that outcome and afterwords will say things like GGG hits so much harder (over exaggerating his punching power) and claim he won when he's out landed 2 to 1.crusader wrote:A lot of heart for and against him these days....the haters are abundant and just as passionateNateJR wrote:I honestly believe people on here exaggerate GGGs abilities and undermine Canelos. There are maybe a handful of people who don't think GGG is the greatest thing since sliced bread on these forums. If you think the numbers are equal you clearly are a selective reader lol.
Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Are you a hater? I certainly wouldnt label someone a hater just for picking Canelo
Canelo may well win in dominant fashion as you claim, though Im not one to act like I have a crystal ball and am certain of what will happen

Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
If amazes me how long some of you have been following boxing and don't comprehend the style differences between a guy like Jacobs and Canelo as pertaining to GGG facing them.
Jacobs is a strong 6'1 ATHLETE who spent his entire career at 160
And 168 AND purposely blew weight so as to come in MASSIVE against GGG. Not only was Jacobs the much better athlete but was also the clearly bigger man. Canelo offers none of these stylistic issues. He's a flat footed mediocre athlete who stands about 5'8.5 and has campaigned his entire career at 154 this farce of a fight not withstanding. Canelo is a good boxer. But he offers none of the physical attributes that troubled GGG so much against Jacobs.

GGG is a different beast altogether. GGG is better than Canelo. If this fight was in 2018 or 2019 Canelo would have a better chance. Don't see a KO in this fight. GGG 8-4, 9-3 decision.
Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Not a hater in the way people are on here towards Canelo. Just like FMJ he won't get the credit whether he wins or not, there will always be those that try to taint anything he accomplishes. Even if the fight is razor close and Canelo gets the nod, now tell me with confidence there won't be a loud outcry that the fix was in? You know, I know it and everyone on here.crusader wrote:Are you a hater? I certainly wouldnt label someone a hater just for picking Canelo

I think there would be plenty of outcry from either side if their guy lost a decision in a razor close fightNateJR wrote:Not a hater in the way people are on here towards Canelo. You seem to only be seeing one side, which is often symptomatic of a person with their 'heart' involved. GGG no doubt has huggers, but forums are also loaded with those who go the other way on 'lil G', whether they dont like some of his personal qualities, or are trying to balance the hype.

8-4, 9-3 decision on the cards, or in reality. If 8-4 is reflective of the action in the ring, we can expect Canelo to win a split decision based on history.MachoTime wrote:GGG is a different beast altogether. GGG is better than Canelo. Re: GGG vs Canelo set to September 16
Good post, though I think Canelo has some things that could give GGG trouble, namely his faster hands, upper body movement and body punching. If GGG can land his jab with regularity, he should be able to outbox Canelo from the outside, but Canelo is no David Lemieux. Another question is whether GGG will respect Canelo's power like he did with Lemieux and Jacobs? Canelo hits hard, but he tends to go the distance against top opponents. Whatever happens, I'm really excited for this fight, it's a really interesting stylistic matchup.diddy wrote:If amazes me how long some of you have been following boxing and don't comprehend the style differences between a guy like Jacobs and Canelo as pertaining to GGG facing them.

I agree that GGG's power gets exaggerated. I won't be shocked if Canelo gets a decision, but I can't see him outlanding GGG 2 to 1.NateJR wrote:I'll be labeled a hater until it comes to fruition. GGG may be overrated by some, but there's no question that Canelo's record flatters him. He has been in with top opposition, but he was completely outclassed by Mayweather and somehow got a draw on one card, and he received some very generous cards in his wins over Trout (I thought Canelo won that by 1 round), Lara (I had it a draw) and Cotto (I gave it to Canelo by 2 rounds).

Once it's past round 4, it'll be all GGG wearing Canelo down as his cement feet betray him. GGG BY DOMINANT UD with perhaps a KD or two. Just pray the judges do the right hing.
