Look at his previous earnings and earnings potential and then imagine the same without the character he is. Very astute man making millions out of a career probably worth hundreds of thousands. I get it and I like him. Spent time with him and thought he was a bloody decent bloke when no cameras pointing at him.

Doesn't mean he's not a twat. On recent evidence Parker is probably the weaker of the champs. Parker would still chin Tony no problem at all. If Tony can get that fight and a decent payday fair play to him. He's still a fuckin bum hole though.Horse wrote:He's promoting himself you dolt.
Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
He's not my favourite by a long shot but he gets it. He sells himself perfectly to get people talking about him, to sell tickets for his fights and ultimatly get himself on PPV.
He's got a limited career span and knows what it takes to generate money. It's panto season when Bellew kicks off. If you buy in to it, and dislike him, you're the exact market he's trying to reach. You want to watch his fights in the hope he gets beat by devastating KO.
Boxing is a business. Bellew knows how to play the game.

Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
Yes he is.
"He's promoting himself" shouldn't be a one size fits all excuse for the bullsh1t he comes out with. Trashtalking in the build up to a fight is fair enough but talking b0110cks between fights about his standing in the game and his achievements just insults everyone's intelligence. Worse than Bellew coming out with all this drivel is the refusal of the Sky boxing goons to correct him or question his stupid opinions.
Since when did "promote yourself" equate to "make everyone hate you" ?

I don't mind Bellew
And let's face it, the way he goes on has made him a lot of dough
Would he of made the same amount of cash if he wasn't the way he was? Probably not
Sensible chap

Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
I tend towards not liking him. Since he beat Haye he's been on Sky acting like he's the world's greatest, which I find annoying, it's like he's the authority on everything. End of the day he beat an old injury-ridden haye, it doesn't make him Ali.
Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
I hated David Haye, Tony Bellew beat David Haye, I can't stand Deontay Wilder, Tony Bellew is currently talking sh*t to Wilder...I like Tony Bellew
Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
He's not though. 'Do you want the Joshua fight now that you're fighting at heavyweight?' 'No - he'd kill me.'TheCobra wrote:I tend towards not liking him. Injured or not every man and his dog said he'd be gone in minutes v Haye and they were wrong.
Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
The way he presents himself as some boxing historian in punditry is a little embarrasing but otherwise i can see what u mean but the facts are really he has only lost to one guy ,and a absolute top line guy aT that.since than he has done v well at cruiser and hw and is a great talker and character, plus the rocky film...the haye fight backed him as a hw superstar...even if he cant beat the top 5 i think he has a decent chance of beating parkerOssyrules wrote:http://www.skysports.com/share/10864655

Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
I get people think he talks himself into big fights he might not get otherwise, and it gets more money into the bank, but there's two parts to Bellew imo, the acting and real.
Acting - going mad at David Haye after the Flores fight threatening to get out the ring and go at him, kicking a toblerone at him etc
Real - I think he actually believes that he smashed Haye up and is championing that fight. Let's be honest, he was losing to Haye (who looked sh1t as well) before the Achilles, and after the fight he badly struggled to put him away and had no fitness to put in a sustained attack. Any sustained attack would do. It's embarsssing to champion that fight as a great win at heavy. It was a gift but any fan knows it's an inconclusive win.
He goes on how he speaks the truth, he'd beat Haye and give him the rematch etc. He doesn't deserve a title shot based on the Haye fight.
There's shit talk I don't mind, but then there's Bellew. He might be sound off camera but he's a nob on camera. Some boxers trash talk good, Bellew doesn't imo just annoying

He's lost to 2 (cleverly and Stevenson)Bricks wrote:The way he presents himself as some boxing historian in punditry is a little embarrasing but otherwise i can see what u mean but the facts are really he has only lost to one guy ,and a absolute top line guy aT that.since than he has done v well at cruiser and hw and is a great talker and character, plus the rocky film...the haye fight backed him as a hw superstar...even if he cant beat the top 5 i think he has a decent chance of beating parkerOssyrules wrote:http://www.skysports.com/share/10864655

He's done ok at cruiser. Won a vacant belt and defended vs a fringe contender. He's beat no champion. Criticised cleverly for being a plastic champion at 175 as he won a vacant belt. Hypocrite. He hasn't done very well at cruiser based on that.
He isn't a HW superstar imo. Haye looked terrible and was still beating Bellew prior to fight ending injury. Bellew looked really poor in that fight, and was either unfit or carrying the extra 11lbs meant he couldn't fight at a decent output or sustain an attack. He looked really poor. Bellew was telling mcguigan to pull Haye out during the fight, he knew what was going on. Now the dust has settled he's chomping again and talking rubbish about his great win
Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
What round did the Achilles go in? Because it'll be interesting to see your pre-fight thoughts. I'm not putting words in your mouth here, but there were many, many people who said Haye finishes it when he wants to, that as soon as he lands Bellew is toast, that if Bellew can't deal with someone like Stevenson that Haye would murder him, that Bellew will spend a round or two on his bike and it's all over when Haye launches his first attack.Ossyrules wrote:Real - I think he actually believes that he smashed Haye up and is championing that fight. And yet, Haye landed good shots and was probably winning, but Bellew did as he said, fought with Haye, and didn't look that out of place. Of course the injury made the difference but it's not like had you never seen either fighter before that you'd be thinking after five rounds or so 'this is a completely farcical mismatch,' which was 99% of the pre-fight predictions.
In that sense of course Bellew is going to champion the fight. Nobody gave him a chance and he won it.
Re: Is Bellew the most deluded/annoying boxer of recent times
- round 6. Haye lands a one two then bounces back as Bellew fires back, which is evaded. On the retreat Haye stumbles into the ropes due to his achilles injury. From this point Haye was done and a sitting duck. It's not bellews fight, but Haye can't win the fight now.dirk2686 wrote:What round did the Achilles go in? I agree with most your post though, Bellew did not get blasted out as most predicted, including me. So I give credit for that. The grand scheme of things though is he was losing the fight, 4-1 down after winning the first. Haye comfortable by just jabbing Bellew and missing with the odd wild shot. Whether you're a Haye fan, Bellew fan or neutral, at halfway Haye was up and in shape. The point of argument isn't that Bellew didn't get knocked out early, it was that it was crystal an injury settled that fight but if you hadn't watched it and just listened to Bellew, you'd think he battered Haye from pillar to post. It's farcical.

Bellew isn't even the most deluded boxer in Liverpool.

Now wouldn't it be funny if Adonis Stephenson called.out Tony Bellew..And offered to do it at any weight cruiser or heavy. Stephenson doesn't have much going on what with kola Vs ward rematch scheduled..
