Which Guy Had the Best Tune Up Fight: GGG or Canelo?

Post by caldo2025 »

Now that the Tune Up Fights are complete and we finally have a fight date in September, who do you think put themselves in the best position to win this fight? They both chose two VERY different routes for their tune up fight opponents; One ending up in the toughest fight of his career while the other ended up in the easiest fight of his career. Which Boxer made the best decision and why?

Valid points could be made for both sides but I'm leaning towards GGG's route. I think that the Jacobs fight was way closer than GGG expected it would be and it may have lit a new competitive fire under him after mowing through guys for years with ease. Another huge factor was ended the knockout streak. GGG no longer has that record hanging over his head and that has to be a bonus heading into this fight.

I personally think that Canelo's did nothing but hurt himself with choosing the target practice with JCCJR. Not only was he untested but he provided GGG and his team plenty of tape to study as he threw every punch in his repertoire last night. Can't be a plus.

Who do you think and why?

Golovkin had an actual fight, Canelo did 12 rounds on the double end bag.

Exactly. Chavez was a half charged corpse!

It's pretty tough for you to question canelos route when you thought it was going to be an epic war.

I was completely wrong for sure...more hopeful to see a good fight than anything. I really thought that the size difference would be a lot bigger than it was. I don't think many thought that JCCJR would just be showing up for a check though. Cash grab is all that was.

In regards to 'tune up fight', Golovkin 100%.

That being said, it was a fight not a tune up, and there was some strong argument that Jacobs should have won. It is very clear to me that Golovkin needs to step things up again, as another performance like as against Jacobs, in my opinion, will lose against Canelo. The Jacobs fight will serve Golovkin well.

Jacobs is a tougher opponent than canelo. Its always better when you fought top guys before a big fight than taking on 0 chin khan and c level c jr

Golovkin will be facing what is in all likelihood an easier opponent next time. Canelo will be facing a far tougher opponent next time out. Advantage GGG.

I couldn't care less about wrong predictions, but you loved it from a match making stand point. You can't change your mind and criticize it now.

Well lets see.........if you are saying GGG, then I will pick Canelo to win. You are starting to remind me of BNov. I normally pick whoever BNov hexes.

Jacobs wasn't a tune up fight. It was a live title fight

Chavez jr I guess some could say was an outing at a bigger weight, if the canelo fans are looking to justify it. Anyone with 1 eye could see the fight was no contest and in a boxing sense, worthless

GGG was really tested and all questions about him being abel to take a punch was awnserd. not seen the whole canelo-jccjr fight but from wath i'v seen and heard it wasen't really a fight. and not being abel to take out a drained, inactive jccjr dosen't speak good for for power.

I loved the idea of the fight and did not criticize the matchmaking part of it at all. All that I said was the one guy had the toughest fight of his life and the other had the easiest. That's not criticism, it's a fact. Look up the difference.
