If Canelo punched "the living crap" out of Chavez or even 50% of that living crap, there would be a stoppage. The same way, you could say that Mayweather punched the living crap out of Canelo. Neither of them actually punched anything close to "the living crap" out of their opponents. They just outboxed them and had sufficient power to keep them away, but that's it.
Neither Canelo or Mayweather went for a stoppage vs Chavez and Alvarez... Why didn't they??? ... If you're punching the living crap out of somebody and nothing is coming back, why go for the KO??? You're winning every round and you've got the fight won!!! No need to risk anything if the guy's not folding.. Unless it's a giant ego thing where you want an overwhelmingly impressive KO ratio..

Emmanuel Steward used to preach that you always go for the KO.. He was the greatest of coaches but I've never agreed with that.. Let the KO happen on it's own.. If your man is ready to be taken out get him out.. If he's taking everything just continue to box and beat the crap out of him.. Unless you're an unbelievable puncher like Dempsey or Tyson and you lust for the kill -- if you live by the sword you'll die by the sword, sooner or later.

There is a little factor called fans who paid for the fight and wanted to be entertained instead of having to watch a sparring mismatch. There is also not so little thing like Mexican rivalry. DLH could have easily coasted to a UD in his fights against Chavez Sr, but he didn't, as that's not what Mexican fans expect.

Typo? did you mean Canelo?

Yes Chavez is naturally bigger than Canelo

Neither fight is any different without the catch weights. Christ, neither of them won a round or went for anything.

Maybe, but then why drain your opponent. It isn't a dick measuring contest.

Are we still doing the Mayweather/Canelo weight thing?
Canelo's level of skill is somewhere between Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara.
Combine that, and Canelo's body type, and the result was academic.

It also didn't help Canelo that Floyd was super sharp that night.

No comparison between Floyd and Canelo.
Canelo is an HBO invention and other weird factors about his looks and where he is from.
Mayweather actually earned his fame by being MUCH BETTER than other prime opponents.
Not by squeaking by real competition and looking spectacular against over-matched fighters.
