Biography of George Foreman

Post by Scoops »

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good book about the life and career of George Foreman? I'm less keen on an autobiography and would like something well-written by a journalist.

Thanks a lot in advance!

I got "By George" the autobiography of George Foreman. It's a good read.

I agree, it is a very good book.
I don't know if there are any others.

There were a few good newspapers articles about him that appeared in the newspapers
shortly after he became the heavyweight champion of the World back in 1973,
that had some interesting facts that were not in his autobiography.
Such as he was actually born at Possum Ridge which is near Marshall Texas (but may actually be a part of it now
if the city has expanded.
and he also admitted to have been "The Champion window-breaker" of his community growing up
when he was a youth in the Fifth Ward in Houston Texas.
things like that that sort of stay with you when you read it.
These articles were in the google newspaper archives but Im not sure if they still are there.

he has written some other books, but I dont think the main topic was about his boxing career in them.
I will try and bump up some past threads from here that had some intersting posts and links.

Love Foreman the fighter and the man but his commentary is woeful, you could feel Larry Merchant grimace through the screen every time Big George opened his mouth
