Any boxer with a decent mentality will surely want to win a prize named in honour of TBE. I think for it to work they will have to pay some a couple of guys to be on standbye and in good shape for replacements, and maybe if they don't get to fight that year get gaurenteed entry the following year. I would love if this is the start of the end of the belt bullshit
The stand bys will be scheduled for the undercards.

Basically, it's the same thing but with top 15 ranked boxers which sounds amazing. It will be interesting to see which boxers will agree to it. All that it takes is for one or two big names to join and this thing could be a hit and make others decide to join.

Wouldn't it be something if this became the new format of the sport? Think about the great fights fans would get to see. I hope this goes off without a hitch.
'The Contender'? It doesn't sound like that, from what I read in the article. It sounds more like 'Super Six', which was a nice idea that ultimately failed to capture peoples' attention.
Which article(s) did you read?
I'm asking because in the reports that I read the set up was set to be 8 fighters per division in single elimination bouts. That's the sort of tourney that works best IMO. I didn't at all like the format of Showtime's 'Super Six'. We got more fights from it, but it was sort of convoluted. I prefer win you're in, lose you're out.
The articles that i read just said that top 15 ranked boxers would be eligible or invited but I didn't see how many boxers were going to be in each tournament. 8 does sound good to me too. Super 6 was ok. A genius way to bolster interest in what was a boring division at the time. I like how losers are out and it's not a round robin type tournament. They did say that belt holders within the tournament would be defending and some belts could be brought through the tournament with the Ali Trophy and Belt(s) being awarded to the tournament winners. I love it. Why not right?

50 million dollars should be enough to get quality boxer's interest but I just hope they are able to get some big names to bite so this thing could have a chance to take off. They need to find a better way to substitute injured fighters than Super Six did. It was so random. It would suck for someone to get handed the title at the end because a guy was injured and they could only get some fish for replacement fighter.

SMW seems pretty pointless at the moment. CW was a good choice though.

Ya, SMW isn't so hot at the moment, but loads of competitive matches possible at CW.

Hopefully there aren't many glaring omissions when it comes to the participants

"The winner will receive the GREATEST prize in boxing – the Muhammad Ali Trophy."
*sigh* I don't think they realize that they can't arbitrarily decide how prestigious their own prize that they just concocted is.

Depends on who they can attract. If it is Shumenov level fighters, it will be even worse than good SMWs, as we know who top CWs are.
