David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Right now Lemieux will take some time off to rest his left hand and he also has a sore left shoulder from training camp. Neither injury will require surgery.
The one fighter Lemieux's manager Camille Estephan would love to secure is former four division world champion Miguel Cotto, who returns to the ring in late June or early July.
But even Estephan doubts Cotto would even consider such a dangerous fight at this point in his career. Cotto wants to retired by the end of 2017.
" Cotto, Miguel Cotto. I do not know if he's going to want to [fight Lemieux], because he's at the end of his career. It would be a really nice fight," Estephan said.
"All of the doors are open for David and he deserves it. His international fame is higher than any other Quebec boxer in history - be it Bute, Pascal, Lucas or Gatti. David is at that point and overtakes all of them."

Is Lemieux serious?
I'm assuming he wants to be the best middleweight in the world, so he thinks he can achieve this by going after an ancient welterweight?

Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
This is silly. THE fight to make right now in the Middleweight consolation bracket is Lemieux and Jacobs. The winner of this fight secures the winner of Canelo and GGG. Jacobs performed well enough to earn that chance again and Lemieux has put together an impressive string of wins since his loss to GGG so why not?
Charlo is waiting in the wings though and it's a matter of time before that kid starts making noise at 160. I think that he could wipe the decks with Canelo, GGG, Jacobs and Lemieux when it's all said and done. Unfortunately because i can't stand those Charlo freaks.

Would Lemieux accept a Catchweight? I can't imagine Cotto fighting him without one.

Lemieux hardly fights at 160.. usually 163lbs.. cant see him duin anything below 160jezzamundo wrote:Would Lemieux accept a Catchweight? I can't imagine Cotto fighting him without one.
Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Great fight, but Lemieux is way too big and way too powerful for tiny Cotto.
Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Beat me to it. Lemieux couldn't even make the 10 lb. IBF rehydration weight for the Stevens fight. He'll have to cut his leg off to make anything less than 160 lbs. Guy regularly comes in at 180 lbs. or so.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Lemieux hardly fights at 160.. usually 163lbs.. cant see him duin anything below 160jezzamundo wrote:Would Lemieux accept a Catchweight? I feel like Cotto should be fighting someone like Timothy Bradley. I don't see any rationale where Lemieux would be his best option.
Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Yup, that's the fight I wanted to see Bradley take. They can both retire after too.Lackeos wrote:I feel like Cotto should be fighting someone like Timothy Bradley. I don't see any rationale where Lemieux would be his best option.

Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Cotto is a diva. The only way he takes this fight is at 157 and below. Lemieux will go for the money grab and will get stopped, as he even has a hard time making 160. I am not sure why, as he has visible fat around his waist.
Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Of course his manager would love to secure Miguel Cotto. That's a big money fight that carries a lot less risk than the other big money fights that would be possible.
I doubt Cotto wants to fight anymore Middleweights in his career. If he fights again I expect it'll be against a fighter at 154 or lower. I also expect Cotto at this point would prefer to fight a fighter that has been put through the ringer a bit like himself.
Like a Tim Bradley or a Juan Manuel Marquez or someone like that.

I think it was in the Stevens fight that Jones Jr. said that his trainer won't let you get into the gym if you are out of shape or something. It's weird that he does have visible fat. He has a hell of a time making weight, though. I know that for sure. Skipped that IBF re-weight for the Stevens fight and looked like a straight corpse in the face-off.boxing_rocks wrote:Cotto is a diva. The only way he takes this fight is at 157 and below. I know that, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him accept 158lb for a big paycheck.Mexi-Box wrote:Beat me to it. Lemieux couldn't even make the 10 lb. IBF rehydration weight for the Stevens fight. Of course everyone wants to fight Cotto. What's not to want about prospect of a fight with a famous, smaller and past his prime opponent?
I don't think a fight like this should or will happen. Cotto deserves a nice ending to his awesome career. Being a stepping stone for a younger and bigger guy seeking money and big name on his resume wouldn't be one.
Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
I'm sure Cotto would be fine with it.........as long as it can be fought at about 154.1, with a $10 million penalty for any ounce over.

It would be a decent paycheck.. Cotto's next fight has to be PPV, because Roc Nation owe him money.. Only way they'll make that money is having Cotto fight PPV. Now, I think you'll all agree, Lemieux is better name right now than Kirkland.. Still don't think it'll do many buys though.jezzamundo wrote:I know that, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him accept 158lb for a big paycheck.Mexi-Box wrote:Beat me to it. I think Cotto is a big enough name on his own to produce at least 200k buys today.

Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Who wouldn't want to fight Miguel cotto. A former junior welterweight and a big name about 10 years out of his prime. His biggest win in recent memory (about 5 years ago) was against Sergio Martinez, a guy who's body was that of a 65 year old man. Martinez stepping into the ring with torn ligaments in his knees
Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Whoever said him vs Bradley would be good hit the nail on the head. About the same size and skill level, stage in their careers, and would be a good retirement fight for both. Although I would favor Cotto slightly, it would be a good fight.
Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
Not keen for Cotto at all. Too small, too old, too slow.
David needs either a Charlo or a Jacobs to see if he is ready for another nibble at GGG.
I was so impressed with his performance against Stevens, I think he should keep his momentum going forward against relevant fighters.
Cotto was great to watch in his prime and it's hard to watch guys that hang on too long.

Re: David Lemieux's Manager Would Love To Secure Miguel Cotto
David Lemieux really needs to go back to boxing school, his last performance was very poor. I'd never seen his opponent (Reyes) fight before but I can only assume he had trained for about a week prior and/or is a completly shot fighter albeit with an iron chin. Reyes look well sluggish, everything was delayed and his punches looked like he was an amateur (with heart) in his first or second fight. I looked up his boxrec record and was astonished to see the amount of knockouts he had amassed. The way he was punching that night (against Lemieux), it wouldn't have deterred Amir Khan yet his punches were landing on a sloppy Lemieux who would bull charged his way in, gas, recover, bull charging, throwing wild punches and gas again. I appreciate Lemieux he is a dangerous puncher but I'm not a fan of this type of boxing, nothing particularly skillfull about it.
