The great Mike McCallum to me, is the best Jr middleweight boxer of all time.

McCallum was better.
The bodysnatcher is one of my all time favorites. Terrific all-around skills, great chin, heart, stamina.
I do believe the talk of him being ducked by the big names is a bit overblown. Only Duran would have had a compelling, non-monetary reason to avoid him. It would have been a terrible match up for Duran and he would likely been handled quite easily by McCallum.

Yes, at that stage of the Hands of Stone career, the great Mike McCallum would've beaten him. It was a smart move by Duran to fight the great Thomas Hearns for more money than to fight a dangerous opponent like McCallum for less.Esquire wrote:McCallum was better.

I don't think that The Fab 4 really avoided him because of fear. I think that they were trying to fight each other for the millions that they could have generated at the time and the scores to settle. Maybe McCallum came late for the party. But, I would not be surprised at the time in the 80s that he would have or could have beaten each member of the Fab 4. He was as great in skill as the four of them. What a fighter he was!

McCallum better all round fighter
Re: Who is greater at Light Middleweight: Mike McCallum or Terry Norris?
Terry Norris was a great light middleweight champion in his own right, but Mike McCallum had a greater resume. Like I commented on the Mike McCallum, had they fought in their prime, McCallum would hurt Norris on the body before finishing him off with the late round stoppage and he would do worst to Norris than Julian Jackson did to Norris.

Terry Norris was iced by Julian Jackson -- On the other hand Julian Jackson couldn't get out of the 2nd round against Mike McCallumscorpio83 wrote:In your opinion who was greater at the Light Middleweight Division: Mike McCallum or Terry Norris?
Jackson's body was snatched in a wondrous display of skill and power... I also don't see Jackson fighting to a brutal draw with a peak James Toney.

BTW... That was the best Middleweight Title Fight I've ever witnessed

and u musta seen a few in your 65 years.....high praise indeed kalan
Re: Who is greater at Light Middleweight: Mike McCallum or Terry Norris?
I haven't seen anyone backing Norris. Being the big fan of controversy that I am I'm going to say McCallum was the better fighter with the better resume and he stops him in the middle rounds
