colin mcmillan appreciation thread

Post by littlepug »

Hadn't watched any McMillan fights for ages until last night and Christ I had forgotten how good he was ! Was originally looking for the De Roux fight as I can remember watching that fight and being super impressed but couldn't find it on YOUTUBE so just watched the stuff that was there, he has to be one of the best movers and have one of the most natural, fluid and relaxed boxing styles I have ever seen, he even looked good when losing, he definitely lacked in strength and power which was always gonna cost him but as a study in the finer points of the sport he was a real joy to watch, was also a good amateur and had a high IQ apparently ! Thoughts ?

Cracking little fighter and with exceptional speed and reflexes even for a featherweight.

I seem to remember him beating Sean Murphy - who was a basic but also an extremely strong guy at FW and an aggressive banger - with ease.
Bit of a bull and a matador fight I recall, with the matador winning in a classy way.

My mind might be playing tricks but I think that a fight with Hoko was briefly possible and that would have been a belter - Colin's fast hands, elusivity pitched against Paul's strength, serious workrate and better weight of punch.

I seem to recall the boxing press in the UK at the time saying he was one of the most gifted fighters the UK had ever produced. He was never the same after the injury which was a real shame.

Yes I think it could of been a unification fight but there was only a small window for it and it passed

I thought that might be the case but it was a long, long time ago :TU:

Hoko v Colin would have been a belter I reckon, two Brit featherweights with totally different styles, characters and fanbases.
All the ingredients for a great domestic but also world-class fight.

Beating Stecca for the WBO title was not exactly on a par with Barry beating Pedroza....but Stecca was more than decent and I think that Colin could make certain opponents look very average.
