Lomachenko: Salido is a Step Back, But If The Promoters Agree...

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) is not overly interested in a rematch with Orlando Salido (43-13-4, 30 KOs).

In his opinion, facing Salido at this point is a step back - but if the promoters reach an agreement and that's the opponent presented to him, then Lomachenko is ready for action.

"For me as a boxer, Salido is a step backwards. I'm always looking for something new, something interesting and useful for my career. Why waste time just to close up some issues from the past. After the fight between me and him, everything has become very clear [on where we both stand]. But if the promoters agree, I will compete. While I cannot say anything yet about my next fight, I think that it will be held in the late summer," Lomachenko told Gregory Paly.

In his last fight, back in April, Lomachenko dominated and stopped Sosa. Lomachenko praised Sosa for showing heart in the fight, which the boxer from Ukraine believes was lacking from Walters, who quit during their showdown last November.

"There was no surprise about the fight. He is a good boxer, but not top-class.. perhaps Walters in this regard was interesting. Although, as a warrior, Sosa proved to be better here [than Walters], because his corner asked to stop the fight, and he refused. Sosa wanted to continue," Lomachenko said.

I think it's definitely a worthy fight for the revenge factor. I'm surprised Loma doesn't really want the fight. You would think someone who has always won and revenged his only amateur loss many times would be interested in avenging his only pro loss.

Yeah that's my thinking as well.

Salido always brings it, and the fight still makes sense so I'm down to see it.

If it is made, I will watch. I just don't think that it should be a priority for Lomassiah. There's plenty to do without that fight, and Salido does not deserve another fight with Lomassiah given the lack of respect and professionalism he showed in the first go round.

Maybe Loma does not want to fight him because he does not know if he will win the rematch. Two losses to Salido will be damaging to his career because he only has a few pro fights. Salido has a lot of losses, but he has a lot of fights.

I very highly doubt that Lomassiah is worried about losing to Salido. It was a very close loss last time and Salido will get away with none of the BS allowed the first go round.

I would prefer him fight one of champions at 130, but if not, Salido is a good choice.

Why wouldn't he? I mean if you can slip it by one ref you can slip it by another.

In my scorecard Loma won 115-113, no way he lost. One thing visible is that he never had a tough infight experience and he learned that in that fight. He should bust Salido ass, that dirty mf who did +10 low blows without any punishment by point deduction from incompetent Laurence Cole.

I don't think it's really necessary. But you will have his critics always throwing it out there. If he avenges, at least that will be one less point they can whine about.

I like his attitude about it though. There is most likely little doubt from the masses what the outcome will be. I wouldn't mind either way I guess. I'd rather see him in there with some other relevant, top boxers.

Im sick and tired of hearing about this worthless sack of ..... . Ukranian boxing fans need to realize that even though someone is their compatriot that it alone doesnt mean that the someone mentioned is any good or deserves anything. Also Ukranian boxing fans need to start realizing that even though they too may be Ukranian that we are all just human really, their support for this guy isnt going to make him any more credible and they don't need to support him just because he's Ukranian. He may be Ukranian but maybe he also has a huge dark side which has yet to reveal itself, perhaps down the road this guy will prove to be a national embarrassment instead of a national hero and after all this unwarranted hype from the Ukranian boxing fans well if the fellow fails to live up to it then its going to be much harder for the next hyped up Ukranian to be taken seriously.

Completely different circumstances, gil. Lomassiah is no longer the demanding rookie with potential who needs to be put in his place. He is the man of the under 140 classes. They aren't going to let their Ukrainian meal ticket get spoiled by a fouling Salido and they will not condone Salido ignoring weight.

I don't care very much what Lomachenko does right this moment, since the available opportunities aren't very amazing. However, in July we'll have Berchelt - Miura and Corrales - Castellanos. Lomachenko needs to be looking at a way to get a fight in December - February against the winner of one of those. If he fights Salido in the meantime, then I don't care. But no, Lomachenko doesn't NEED to avenge his only defeat; not if there were better opportunities right now, which there aren't. But he needs to get a win that is on-par with the preposterous hype that his nuthuggers are giving him.

Lomachenko out-punched Salido by a wide margin when he had 4 professional rounds.. They had a corrupt referee who'd been suspended for bias in the past allowing Salido to get away with murder... There is no possible way Salido survives the rematch -- and that's why he's avoided the rematch until now.

You must be the most the most hateful and biased fan on Earth by a wide margin.. Lomachenko is easily the best boxer in the world and completely dominated Gary Russell (the best Featherweight in the world) at a time when he had 2 professional fights.. Even Roy Jones called Lomachenko the best fighter in the world.. You don't have to be Ukrainian to support him.. He has a growing fan base worldwide because of his brilliant skills and willingness to fight anyone. Can your anti-Ukrainian crap and live in the real world. It's a country and region of the world that produces some the best boxers.
